Ghosts of Girlfriends Past

This was by no means a "thinking film", but I enjoyed it just the same and some of the lines were priceless. My hubby and I had numerous "laugh out loud" experiences with this one. I'll give it a 7. (Love his assistant in this one, lol!!!!!) If you are offended by language or sexual innuendo, this is not the film for you. :)

Note: He plays a professional photographer in this film, hahahaha!

Breakdown

A 1997 thriller that skips all the fluff. A 95min thrill-ride, not a shot wasted. Takes place on and around the highways in a California desert, so it reminded me a bit of Duel, Spielberg's best movie. But this one is even better. 9/10.

Avatar - for the second time - on Imax.

9.5/10

See it ... and even better see it on Imax if there's one close.

last 3 I've seem in the theater:

Up in the Air 9/10
The Young Victoria 9/10...I love "period" films...beautiful cinematography IMO, and the costuming was lush and fabulous. I liked Emily Blunt as Victoria.
A Serious Man...9.5/10 I'm a huge fan of the Coen brothers and this one did not disappoint. But it is not everyone's cup o' tea....very dark humor.

The Lovely Bones - 10/10 - best film I've seen in a while

Up in The Air
- 8/10 - lots of fun, different. George Clooney - very good.

Sherlock Holmes - 5/10 - great art direction, but plot was flat as a pancake. Acting was shockingly lame.

Leap Year
- Amy Adams, darling as always. Uber-predictable storyline. Would be great to be challenged as a viewer just once in a while. 4/10

3 Idiots - 8.5/10
Predictable but fun.

Crazy Heart - 8/10
Good movie but I felt I was watching The Wrestler all over again. However, you can't go wrong with Jeff Bridges.

Avatar - 6.5/10
if it wasn't for the special effects I'd give it a 2. The acting and writing were horrible.

Up in the air was a bit of a let down for me (i.e. the ending). I agree on A Serious Man.

Up In The Air: 3/10

The. Most. Predictable. Film. That I've seen in a long time.

This movie is totally lacking in heart, totally lacking in characters to empathise with. I wasn't sure if I was meant to dislike Clooney's character for being so incredibly shallow and self-distanced and introverted and being one of those 'I don't know how to switch off!' characters (yawn), but the thing is, when a movie sets out to illustrate that the character is so incredibly shallow and self-distanced (yawn) , 1 of 2 things can happen: they die, or they find meaning and realize life is much better with someone else.

From the first 5 minutes I could plan out this movie. The first time I saw his love interest I looked at my wife and said "I bet she's married"... well, lo and behold. I can't fathom why this movie is getting the reviews it is, it is a rehash of the same old plot. Clooney looks tired and like he doesn't believe the words he's saying, the protege has a Jar Jar Binks aspect to her and is so unrealistically stupid and naive that the whole movie is like a cardboard cutout of real life and stereotypical, run-of-the-mill characters in EVERY SINGLE ROLE that basically mean this film amounts to a huge steaming turd that happens to have Clooney's name attached to it.

I gave it a 3 because the occasional scene is shot well- nowhere near something like Crash (2004), Magnolia, Babel, any of LOTR, Saving Private Ryan, Aliens and about 600 other movies I could cite, by name.

In fact, forget this movie. Don't have you intelligence insulted and go and rent any of the movies I listed above as that's great directors can do, and spare yourself this pathetic, whiney, pretentious turd.

Story isn't at all historically accurate but it's still a cool story. The visual style is amazing, 9/10 is an understatement (Joey Lawrence isn't quite up to par with this, yet). This movie also has a way with evoking emotion, despite it's testosterone driven slashfest mentality. It got mixed reviews and some people say it was great, some say terrible, but I'll tell you one thing... anyone who sees it will remember it for a long time.

I have seen it twice, most recent was a couple days ago, and I don't really remember much of it. It really wasn't all it was 'hyped' up to be in my opinion. I think I would rate '300' somewhere between 6-7. It was better than an average movie, but wasn't all that and a bag of chips.

All I remember about it was how bad it sucked. I didn't finish watching it.

I agree, and it's more of John Smith in Jurassic Park lol :D, but still great effects and CGI animation, and it had the greatest charismatic villain I have ever seen in a movie 7/10

Barbie: Fairytopia

...with my 3.5 year old.

Actually, the Barbie movies really are excellent. I was surprised when I saw my first. My daughter loves them too.

Oh rating..hmm....Very Good. 7/10. This one didn't have as much impact as others I have seen.

Just got back from seeing "Old Dogs" Very Funny!!! I laughed most of the way through it even teared up a couple of times. Definately worth the price of of the ticket. Which can not be said about alot of movies these days. Williams and Travolta make a good team.

Inglorious Basterds - 6/10. Sporadically entertaining. I can handle the absurdity and the gratuitous, graphic violence, but many scenes just draggggggggggggggggggggggggged on. I liked the ending overall though.

The Road: 2/10

What a disappointment... I am a fan of the Pulitzer prize winning novel and underestimated just how much a great story could be screwed up when adapted by amateurs with no respect or grasp of the source material. Mortensen is ok as the man, and just ok. That's the only adjective that really covers it, he's not good, he's not bad, just ok. He does a worthy job of carrying the boy in every single one of his scenes though, as the boy is quite possibly the worst actor I've seen in a long time. Granted, in the story itself he maybe has about 15 lines in total but he is not portrayed as a whiny little kid who does nothing but moan and say people are hungry.

The screenwriter figured it would be a good idea to try and flesh out McCarthy's original story with some backstory of his own to add some meat to the script. This aggravates me. It takes a lot of bravado to attempt to fill in the gaps on a Pulitzer prize winning novel written by one of the greatest living authors in the world today, and unsurprisingly the parts written by the screenwriter to function as script are heartless, pointless and so cookie-cut-out I find it hard to fathom how someone could take a great piece of source material and turn it into another cheesy piece of crap.

Liberties are taken at every possible turn with the story and with the order of events resulting in great scenes being missed out (ie: the ship searching, the truck's 'cargo', the baby), or grossly fast forwarded (the basement, the guy on the beach). And what the hell was that crap with the blazer? The cigarette? The Jack Daniels? His old house? Charlize Theron having a speaking part?! Stick to the material for chrissakes and spare us from the inept methods attempting to turn stark, horrid beauty into something comparable on the screen. It just fails.

I don't normally notice score in movies. Or I do, but it's never at the forefront of my attention. With The Road however I couldn't help thinking that the score was so incredibly incongruous to the story. The music sounded like a bread commercial and happy families and completely at odds with the story.

Now then, any adaptation of The Road would have proven difficult given that there isn't a whole lot of dialogue in the book itself, there is some, but not long winded prose as in a Mccarthy novel, it simply doesn't happen. People are direct and say what they mean outright, they don't dick around.

I could go on, but you get the idea... this movie is a shockingly bad rendition of what should have been an absolute titan of modern cinema.

District Nine. //www.imdb.com/title/tt1136608/
Local South African film. 9/10
Lots of political undertones that I think will be lost on anyone who is not a South African or Zimbabwean.
Still a very good movie that will be enjoyed by most people who enjoy scifi.

Nice to see my home town in a movie for a change!

Catch me if you can - 9/10
I saw it awhile back and watched it again tonight. Top notch acting and the fact that it is based on a true story makes it much more compelling. And it has a great ending.

The Hangover. Both my sons and their girlfriends thought it was the funniest movie around. I thought it was STUPID.

I have to agree - also I was bored.

Most recent movie for me: An Education. It's a British flick that is getting an lot of attention. Interesting story line, great acting. Definitely different, which is nice. 8/10

I saw Avatar, and I know it's wildly popular and there were lots of incredibly good elements in it, but it was much too violent for me.
