Hmmm... so you're using LR to manage jpegs (not just raw files). I've never tried that, but I would imagine the workflow is the same. You still need to export your changes. The cool thing is, that leaves your original jpeg intact! I would hate it if it changed my source files because it would mean never being able to go back. (and jpegs would be worse since they would degrade with each update)

Well... Before I made the switch to RAW I only shot jpegs. So when I did the great import of all of my photos there are some jpegs in there. I was just curious as it would save me a step.. Maybe I am trying to use it like photoshop instead of a photo management program.
Thanks for the quick reply! |

Lightroom 1.3 run SUPER SLOW, stalls constantly on my Macbook Pro 2.33 GHZ, I access the images from an external HD on Firewire. Anyone have any idea what the problem might be?? Any help would be appreciated! I loved Lightroom until this problem started perpetually occurring....

I don't have any of those issues on my PC laptop. Good luck, though!

I run Lightroom on the laptop and desktop. No problems at all. I find I use it more to get a feel for a shot, with some adjustments and tweaking, I export to PS for final touches.
I don't bother going to PS if I want to print for myself as the results match Lightroom. I save for web using PS and don't feel any need to do too much more.
Perhaps I am easily pleased, but I just love fill light and clarity.
Yep! I am easily pleased:) |

Theres still people shooting RAW that don't use Lightroom?
If you find yourself shooting 50 RAW files or more in a shoot, on a fairly regular basis (a couple times a month) do your workflow a favour and get LR. You'll spend alot less time sitting infront of your computer, and more time shooting, which means more money in your pocket.
My only complaints are the fact that noise reduction isn't that great, and while the sharpen tool got a huge upgrade in one of the newer versions (1.3? I can't remember...) it sharpens before resizing when doing web sized exports, leaving your 800px image a little on the soft side. |

My main gripe w LR is the sharpening, otherwise its benefits far outway this negative. Didn't realize it sharpend before resize. I always batch USM my images in PS. Interesting... |

Well, thats just an assumption, but my resized images do look like they haven't been sharpened much... |

I loved it when I downloaded the 30 day trial, but £200+ is a hefty price tag. |

I think you are correct in your assumption. Maybe dwterry will concur as I know he is an avid LR user. |

I am really enjoying LR 1.3. And now with a nice export capability to iStockphoto, it has reduced my stock contribution time substantially.
I'd still like to see the curves section enhanced substantially. True colour correction needs access to the individual curves for R/G/B, C/M/Y/K and L/a/b separately. So for this I still have to export to CS2.
Organization is great and much better than Bridge, and the keywording saves me a ton of time when submitting to multiple agencies. But I'd like to see the ability to store both the license (there today) and a list of the agencies the image resides with.
Overall, this has massively reduced the amount of data I have to store - less large psd files - and increased (LOL - edit: DECREASED) my turnaround time - as stated by others above. I load the images while travelling, and make the picks far quicker than I ever could before with a complex folder structure.

Hi All,
Does anyone have any advise on adding decent copyright watermarks to the LR web galleries?
I agree with all the comments here about LR really helping to reduce the workflow and allow a really flexible approach to developing images with the virtual copy options. However, I provide a web gallery to all my clients and whilst LR makes this really easy and even uploads straight to my web server! The copyright watermark is tiny and is placed right in the corner for easy cropping out of potentially stolen images.
Is there anyway to control this like in PS gallery generation, where I can decide on the font, size, position, angle, opacity, etc...
If not, any suggestions on the best way to do this with the least processing iterations? |

If you're running it on a pre-Intel Mac, then I feel your pain. It was truly too slow. But now that I'm using MacBook Pro, it's lightning fast! |
I'm running it on a 2.3 GHz dual processor G5 with 3 gb of RAM and lots of programs open. The speed is acceptable, except when switching from Library to Develop module, but I hear that's a complaint from everybody. I use it to prep my event proofs, though I make my pickes in iView Media Pro and that's where I catalog, too. LR is just a processor for me, then on proof delay I edit "for real" in CS3, sometimes with the LR settings, sometimes again from scratch.
I don't feel the workflow is all that bad in LR at all. If you read Scott Kelby's blog, the post where he lists his desires for LR 2.0, I agree with those wants pretty much. I've got a lot to learn about using LR more effectively, and just bought a DVD set on LR from Ed Pierce.
My average event shoot has between 300 and 700 picks to process--import in place, export for uploading at 1680 on the long side.
edit to add I run Image Processor in CS3 to do my sharpening as a batch before uploading to web. Those who find LR slow on a newer Intel oughta make sure they've repaired permissions (I use Macaroni to do it automatically weekly), have at least 10% of their hard disk space unused, and have run a catalog repair program in the past 6 months.

I run LR 1.3.1 on a MacBook pro 2.4GHz Core 2 duo with 4 GB RAM and Leopard 10.5.2, no problems, runs smooth and fast.

I also use lightroom and CS2. I actually use LR more than CS2. I LOVE IT!!! If you don't have it you have to get it. |

Lightroom to convert RAW, noise reduction, white balance correct, then transfer to PS7 to complete the editing. I got Lightroom for free because I bought Raw Shooter Essentials a couple months before they were sold to Adobe. I like the cataloging feature since I don't have Adobe Bridge.
Runs pretty fast on a Vista OS -Intel Core 2 Duo t7500 @ 2.20Ghz with 4GB RAM laptop.

I attended a Lightroom Demo last night that was given by the Adobe Product Manager for LR and he demonstrated adding a copyright watermark, changing the size, color, etc. so I know it can do it. My version of LR had been sitting on the shelf for a couple months still in the shrink wrap, after watching the demo I got home and installed it immediately. So I can't help with telling you how to do it yet, just that is possible.
Great demo btw. It is so much easier to learn a program like LR by watching someone who knows what they are doing. There were perhaps 20 people there who had been using LR since it came out and they kept gasping whenever he would show some of the non-obvious features. |

That's great thank you, I will try and figure it out.
If you get there before me and have time could you send me a PM or reply on here please. Thanks again |
