Churches frequently do a pictoral directory of members every couple of years... a book that contains a section of family photos and usually a phone directory. We've been in them at many churches. The deal is you get many family sittings -- some of which will buy the photos.

Does anyone know of a place to print such an item? Basically I would just need low-cost color printing for about 20-30 pages each (double sided). Kinkos would charge almost $2 per page, so that's out. I don't know this is something I'd want to dedicate a printer to.

Has anyone ever worked on these before and can share some insight on the process? Is it provided free to the church as a loss-leader to get the sittings? Does the church pay for them on a per unit basis?

These could be useful for clubs and businesses as well.

Right now, the printing and logistics are the only part of this confusing me.

Thanks!
Kevin

I could get you an estimate, but need to know the page size, quantity, number of pages, paper type and binding. It would probably be best to run this type of job on a "digital press" or high-speed copier (e.g. Xerox DocuTec) -- I'm not sure what Kinko's uses ...

As an estimate, say 50 pages, basic glossy paper, spiral bound.

Marathon Press.
They are a printing and marketing company for photographers - the biggest and the best.
I'm doing a book through them for a HS reunion - 12 pages all color PLUS the cover (color on all 4 sides) and with a qty of around 70 the price is under $6/book (8 1/2 x 11).
They have free software to make it all pretty easy to automate the assembly process (to keep name/addresses with the faces) but get the software play with it first - (there is a $60 deposit that is refunded with the first order). I didn't try the software until after I shot the pics and had a datafile so I had to do some work twice.
