Tips for using 580EX II??? - DPChallenge Forums

I rented this flash for the weekend. I'm trying to figure out how to use it correctly. I'm going to avoid the manual functions for now until I get the basics down. How do I use the auto zoom function while the camera is in Aperture priority or Shutter priority mode? Any noob tips for me? Thanks everyone!

I have the 550 and when I zoom my lense the flash follows automatically when in the auto mode.

edit: Put the flash on your camera, mount a zoom lense, turn both on and zoom your lense while resting a hand on the top of the flash. You should be able to feel the motor. Maybe even hear it if you can get your ear up to it. Mine is pretty quite.

It's not working that way for me. There is an 'M' next to 'zoom' and focal length stays constant when I zoom the lens.

Sounds like the flash is in Manual Zoom. There should be a setting (somewhere) to set it to auto. Also on the 550 if the flash head is folded down below 90 degrees it locks into 17mm mode.

Yeah I can't figure out how to get it out of manual mode.

No that's just talking about exposure settings. I need to figure out how to set the auto zoom mode.
