i tried to use 4gig dual channel and it was a no go - for sure.

I'd personally tend to go for Windows XP rather than Vista, simply because Vista has more compatibility problems and is more resource-intensive. I'd lean towards the dual-core rather than quad-core too.

32-bit Vista sees 3G okay. It just won't do more than that. You need the 64-bit version to go beyond that.

And yes, it uses it. It helped out tremendously with my huge Photoshop files. (I use past tense here only because my main computer died and now I'm using a laptop and it only has 2G in it)

I don't think the OP was referring to Photoshop CS3 Extended but that version does have 3D support. Doesn't allow you to create models from scratch but it does allow you to import and manpulate them in a 3d environment.
