Hey, I'm debating between the Sony DSC-F717 and the F828. Obviously cost is the issue since they're from the same line of cameras. But is the few extra hundred dollars worth the improvements of the F828 over the F717.
Also, can anyone suggest any camera in that price range that is highly versatile.

PS: Does anyone know whether the 717 or 828 take doulble exposure shots within the camera?

Thanks

I couldn't make up my mind between this two great sony cameras too, but I decided the dcs-f717, because the 828 has too many noise, and it is the first model sony brought out of this characteristics so it could have a little problems.
But it is only my suggestion

I tell you what I will sell you my f717 for $700 and I will
buy the 828.

I do believe the 717 has a lot of noise above 100iso also. At 800 it is quite noticeable. The noise is not as bad I conclude as is the Chromatic Aberration. Purple fringing around bright objects. Of which most CCD cameras seem to have to some degree also. If I had a choice between the two at the same price I would buy the 828. I am not sure if I did not have a camera now if I would buy it. 1000 bucks is a lot of money to spend on a non dSLR.
Good luck.

the Minolta seems like a sweet camera, considering the anti-shake, nice body with adjustable viewfinder and lcd... but the 13cm focal range minimum is quite a turn as I'm a big fan of macro photography. Too bad.

thats why you bought a Nikon 4500 in the first place, for its amazing macro capabilities, right? If you're getting rid of your Nikon for a 5 or higher mp camera, it's not worth it. Have some fun with that Nikon, they make all sorts of gadgets for the coolpix line to make panos like this

If your style and taste leans toward macro like labuda, the Olympus C-5060 Wide Zoom might be your cup of tea.

I wouldn't get rid of my 4500, because it's very handy on the road... I could go out to a bar with it hanging inside my shirt across my body like a purse without it bothering me and no one noticing. But for studio shots, I would mind an 8MP macro camera. Also, the F828 focuses to 2cm, just like the 4500, making it better for macros because you can still crop it and get a squareroot(2) times larger zoom 4MP macro pic.
