I hear people say "oh.. this camera is so light I can hand hold it to 1/4sec". Then others say "my lens is heavy it really helps to stabilize my camera to get sharp photos".
So which one is it: heavy or light? Which one will make sharper photos in low light setting? |

I get the shakes when holding this little light Canon A540
more than I do when holding this heavy 5D+24-70. Seems like the breeze shakes my hand with the A540. That's not to say any of my photos are sharp! |

I really think this has more to do with the individual than the camera.
There is some physics working though. A heavier object (provided it's not straining the muscles) will give the arm something to push against making the shakes go away a little. You're best bet is to get a tripod or monopod. Save for that, find some lenses with VR. Not as good as a monopod but can really help get that extra stop or two handheld. |
