The Kenko extension tube set I odered came in this week and tonight I finally had a chance to do some quick test shots.

Both taken with the Kenko 36mm extension tube and the Canon 50mm 1.4 USM lens

as I said these were quick test with poop lighting and hand held. I will try to get some better shots soon

I want to get some of those extension tubes. I have some close up filters (+1, +2, +4) both for 58mm and 72mm but the DOF is razor thin on my Sigma 105mm Macro. How shallow is the DOF with the extension tubes? EddyG rocks with his.

from the test i made i found that I had to use an f8 or f11, I tried a few shots around f1.8 to f5 and it was very hard to focus

Jacques, I am not sure but I think that the DOF will always be related to the size of the object related to the size of the sensor. Meaning that extension tubes or close up, for a specific size of the object on the sensor .. you will always have the same DOF = very shallow.

The only way to go would be to use a camera with a smaller sensor 5 not a reflex one) that has macro capabilities and can focus very vlose to the object.

This is my understanding.
