My daughter and I were taking a shot where she was standing on the dock with the S2 IS on a tripod, trying to get her while also getting the darkening sky with some stars in it. She was full of energy, so between shots she was bouncing around, jumping up and down, etc. All of a sudden ... SPLASH.
Without touching or bumping the tripod, she had jumped around enough that the dock, which doesn't float but is still springy, bounced enough to send the tripod into the lake. Completely not her fault, and I made sure she knew it.
We fished it out and it's now been more than a week, but it won't turn back on. At least the pictures on the SD card are okay.
This is the camera on which I really learned how to use aperture, shutter speed, and ISO, on which I took most of my top-scoring photos, that I carried for a week of hiking through the Alps, and that I still used as my backup to the D200.
I'll definitely miss it.
Ironically, I bought it after we spilled a water bottle onto the A620, but then that came back to life and now continues to be useful point and shoot. So I'm holding out meager hope that after another week, maybe it'll dry out more and work again. But being realistic, I realize it's now something we'll probably take apart as a science experiment.
