My eldest daughter(5) is rather intrested in photography (could just be spending time with me) but I would like to get her a worthwhile camera. I know Fisher Price's Kid-tough one, But I worry about the image qualtity being only 1mp, not because Im going to print them at any size, but if the delay or jaggys are as bad as my cameraphone 1mp was I know we would both be disapointed.
Is their another hardy camera out there, not current is fine, that would suit? Any other parents find a good solution?

You're best bet is to buy an older camera off ebay. Get something that back in the day used to be good. That way she will have a good camera and at the same time when she throws it around and breaks it, it really wasn't worth that much.

MemberLowcivicman99 has a very good suggestion.
Another one is that you ask around your friends and family to see if they have a spare camera or a camera they don't want anymore. My eldest received a 2 mp camera from my friend (they had won it from work a few years back and it was just sitting in their closet because they had two other cameras that they used) for her birthday. |

Have to agree with both answers here! I handed over an old Canon Powershot to my son (one of the ones with the old hard metal cases) after it had suffered years and years of abuse from myself and my ex husband - it still works great and he hasnt been able to kill it yet even after school field trips, getting dropped in the mud, riding in his school backpack all year long... ect.
The Powershot sd110 had the case I'm thinking of - you can pick them up on ebay for about 15 bucks used. I think it was 3mp? Ive gotten them for the other little ones in my family and they hold up amazingly well, I've only ever had to replace batteries for them. Even with Destructo-Boy (my stepson) who can break large farm equipment by thinking too hard about it - his is still going strong even after it fell down the stairs last week.
Hope that helps! |

I just got my son this - it's waterproof, shockproof, 7mpx, shoots video. it's not cheap, but i figure, it should be survive until he's old enough to buy his own.

As long as your really really careful not to get any paint (or nailpolish as I sometimes use) in the creases or on anything that has a moving part you can definitely paint it. You could use some nailpolish and just put little flowers on it and not worry about getting the whole thing pink.
Ive painted walk-mans, MP3 players, a computer and monitor, lens hoods... all sorts of stuff. Enamel will dry hard and not flake off, but its smelly and hard to clean up. If your going to use actual paint that will be your best bet as its chip resistant and wont wear off easily like acrylics would. Even varnish sealer over acrylics can chip, or over time (especially with contact to skin oils) it will become sticky. Nail Polish will make a hard and thicker coat - so its good for dot flowers, smiley's, hearts ect...
I paint murals (and other things) for hire a lot. PM me if you have questions about how to paint the camera and I'll help walk you through if you need it. :)
Theres your super-smarty-pants answer from me for today. LOL :)

lol thanks for that, as soon as I suggested a camera for herself, she said it would be a pink one. The nail polish Idea is a good one for the decrotive stuff.
Thanks |
