I have to share a comment that made me LOL. Since there are so many images in this challenge (topless), I feel it's anonymous enough to post...
"It's just a blank with it's blank cut off"! |

That's what I did both in Flora and Ordinary Things. I actually didn't mean to get fixated, but once I did, I ran with it.
In Flora, I got fixated on lilies, and in Ordinary Things I picked windows.
I had a blast with both, and surprised myself with my own ability to express my fascination with them pretty well on both counts during the projects.
Of course, now I have way too many lilies and windows in my portfolio/collections, but hey, for a measly $20, I now have 1000MB of space.....heh, heh!

Heck, almost every challenge has at least one work of staggering beauty. some challenges have a dozen such photos. For treasure like that, I don't mind sifting through some clay. :) |

Originally posted by basssman7: ok, I need a break. I have just voted on some of the duotones challenge. Since when did duotones= underexposed and depressing? I am not so sure I will get through voting on these because it is really bugging the heck out of me that 80% of them seem to be a normal shot that has simply been underexposed to try and look "dark and moody". Anyone else finding this a problem?

You say that like it's a bad thing. Actually, I think they're kind of nice. |

I was Entry #7 in the Street Smarts challenge. Just think, if there are only three more, I could conceivably hope for a top ten and a brown simultaneously!! |

In foreground bokeh-my score is going down- boo-hoo
votes 128
coments 8
score 6.3359 (started out @ 6.4938)
This challenge was confusing to me: I thought 'forebokeh" should be used to enhance the subject and a lot of entries are just a blurry foreground- anybody else think that ???? P |

Hi all
just thawing out from Ottawa GTG - had Shaman there, along with ralph and myself and a new potential dpcer. Cold, but lots of sunlight, so I think we all got decent pix. Fun to meet other crazies willing to go out there and take pix!!!
Duotones clawing up to 4.3...ick. Oh well. |

Gee guys I've been absent for a little while now. Trying to fit in the gym on a regular basis seems to cut down on the sitting in front of the PC and processing photos/commenting. Go figure!
Well all, cross your fingers. I'm headed south to repeat the class from last February when I took the infamous tumble. I hope to stay upright, complete the class, and make it home within the allotted timeframe.
And then I hope to get some shots when the young ones come back home for the holiday. |

Have fun, Jeanne! And whatever you do, don't go shooting with Jeffrey! It's dangerous! :-) |

Oh, and sounds like it was a fun get together, Susan - looking forward to seeing your pictures.
Speaking of get togethers, I'm going to try to arrange one in Iraq. Anyone want to try to come? :-)

Excellent link, Peter. I often wonder if anything can be done at all. It depresses me to realize that it's a complex problem with no easy solution, that's for sure. |

Jeanne timed it well. We leave today for Atlanta for Thanksgiving. And hey! Catherine survived a full day with me. :P
Peter, that was a powerful story. Thanks for sharing it.

Hey everyone, we're leaving for a lovely 11-hour drive to Atlanta. At least we managed to fit the four of us into our Prius. :)
To the Americans, have a great holiday, and to everyone else, have a great week!

Wow raish, that is a chilling story. Thanks for sharing it. I watched "Lions for Lambs" last night and it left me with the same, unsettled feeling.
Being Canadian, we are not directly involved with Iraq, but we always feel strongly and wish for the well being of our southern neighbors, not to mention all the Brits and others involved there.
Being a small country of 30 million or so, we have our own trials and tribulations here with our politicians wanting to pull the plug on our men in Afghanistan.
The situation is certainly a huge mess.
Well, sorry to be so political. Lets talk about pictures again. :)

I believe things happen for a reason, and for whatever reason, my photography exposure on a publishing level seems to be only relating to works that I'm involved with where I can use my camera for good.
I've been published about a half dozen times in local GLBT publications for my work as a Silent Witness and roving photographer, and today I made it to the front page of the local newspaper, section B with a color shot of a Pa CASA award presentation. I'd love to be rich and famous because people know and love my work, but it sure feels right that I get published because what I'm doing makes a difference.
[thumb]614529[/thumb]..........[thumb]614542[/thumb]
Anyway, I was at the award presentation for the young women who so avidly support Pa CASA, and here are the shots of the Executive Director of Pa CASA, and the Kappa Alpha Thetas with their blankets. It was a pleasure and an honor to meet such a terrific bunch of dedicated, inspired young women. They raise a lot of money and awareness as well as becoming Court Appointed Special Advocates for children themselves.
It was a terrific occasion.
