has anyone here taken any of these courses before? I'd be curious to know what people thought of them ...

Me too - please let us know. This course outlines look interesting, as well.

Featuring Photo Style

Technique | Duration: 4 weeks

Advancing from snapshots to making photographs is a quantum step for photographers keen on self-expression. It requires competency with light, colour, composition and capturing that definitive sense of moment. But this is just the start! Beyond lies development of a creative âsignatureâ â the emergence of a personal photographic style.

Week 1: Taking Control
What are your priorities? Deviating from âproperâ exposure. Exploring the extremes.

Week 2: Bending and Breaking Rules
In the "absence" of composition. Creating âedgeâ and tension. Breaking the frame.

Week 3: Letting the Ghost Run Free
Learning the process. âHollywood nightsâ. Experimentation and results.

Week 4: The World According to YOU!
âID-ingâ that feeling or idea. Setting course. Unveiling your vision.

Thanks for the link.

I may try one of these. I have just completed one at Betterphoto.com and would like to see how this compares.

Will let you know.

Any comments on that one? =) I've never taken any photography class of any kind, so I'm naturally curious.

Actually it was better than I expected. I took a fairly rudimentary composition class and although it was fairly basic, it was good to review some of the basic principles. Based on this course, I would not hesitate to do a more advanced one. The pricing is pretty much the same as The Compelling Image.

I am also doing a Photoshop course at Betterphoto and that one has been very good. I learned all sorts of little tips and hints that I would NEVER in a month of Sundays figured out on my own. This would be too basic for the majority of DPC folk, but for someone with an aversion to Photoshop it was good for me.

I took the plunge and registered for a course at on The Compelling Image website.

The course I signed up for is "Developing a Photographer's Eye". Sadly, I am the only person to sign up for this session, but this means I am getting extensive time with the instructor. First assignment critiques far surpass anything I got from the Betterphoto classes.

Content of the actual class is pretty similar to Betterphoto, but the assignments are far more challenging, thus, so far I would say better value for money!
