I've never tried to print a batch of pictures at a Walmart or Costco or something. I want to print 50-100 shots at 4x6 or something (so uploading is out), and wondered if I have to worry about cropping or anything. If the aspect ratio is off from what the print is, will the printer auto crop or will it stretch the picture? (I can stand the first, I couldn't stand the second)
Experience from other people?

When I got 8x10s there it auto cropped them (quite poorly), and out of them 10 I got printed, I only ended up "accepting" like 4 of them. |

But you know what, upload them online and do it that way maybe, I think you have control over the crop then. |

most kiosks at these stores let you crop each picture before you send it to printer!
Edit to add: that is they never stretch the pictures, they always crop it

yeah, online works fine. i ordered 30 4x6s the other day when i was in a time bind. i had them cropped already for 4x6, with my logo placed in the bottom right really close to the border, to test the crop...and they were all printed perfectly
hope this helps

Thanks. The only problem is I'm not uploading 500-1000MB of pictures. I also don't have the time to crop each one, etc. This is just a quick and dirty snapshot thing. I want to burn them to a CD and hand it to someone and say, "print a 4x6 of each" and let it go. Isn't that what "normal" people would do? :)

Here's what I've done.
Load up your memory card with whatever you want printed. Stick it in the kiosk. Hit print all in 4x6. Go look around the store for an hour. Go home and enjoy your new prints.
Oh and by the way, like everyone says, they crop not stretch. I print at Sam's Club (same as Walmart) and I really like their print quality.

Why not just call the local WalMart that you plan on taking the CD to? Someone in that dept should be able to answer that question directly, and then you'd know for sure. :) |

Sometimes you just need someone to point out the obvious answer to you... :) Thanks. I'm too used to getting my answers from DPC.

Hey Doc I have read in some other threads where Wally World won't give you the prints, if they look like a pro took them, unless you have a photographers release. Better make sure and write yourself one! :-P |

Ive had them question it, but as soon as you tell them you are a "professional" they leave you alone. |

yeah, everytime i get prints made there i have to sign a "form". it's very comforting. they recognize my symbol and have turned down prints quite a few times. gotta love the protection :D

Hehe, don't worry, nobody is going to think these were taken by a pro. :) These are pictures of Laine when she was less than 2 years old mainly taken with the S30 and mainly snapshot to record family events. We've never had them printed before to put in an album. I would naturally like to work each one up in PS, but if I did that she'd be 16 by the time I was done.
We got your blurry, we got your red-eye, we got your underexposed. It's all here!

Careful you don't have any with too much skin showing, if you know what I mean. What's considered cute & adorable by family isn't always perceived as such by others... |

I've printed there several times when I don't want to wait for delivery. Except for an 8x10 with a border that they couldn't get right, I have not been unhappy with them.
Walmart is matte/luster finish in store. Target is glossy (blech). |

We'll see. I wasn't in a rush and I didn't want to hang out in Walmart for an hour so I selected where you basically upload them and they get them to you in a few days. They should be ready today. The machine wouldn't read my CD at first. |
