The rainy season of Costa Rica, here I come ! I will be taking with a Canon 20D & 70-200mm primarily, and have already invested in the following bag for rain protection:

What I'd like to know is what else to I need to take with ? Should I put all spare equipment in a zip lock bag with silica in it or what do you recommend?
Many thanks! :D |

Besides keeping your equipment dry (lots of ziplock bags, plastic tarp, etc; your next biggest problem will be mildew & mold. Some of those disposable alcohol wipes and some bleach will take care of both problems. Note: Mark your bleach bottle clearly - you really don't want to mix that up with hydrogen peroxide or eye drops!! lol

Thanks Cindi,
Forgive my stupidity :/
- Would I only clean the outside of the camera with these wipes?
- Would I still need a plastic tarp if I have the water-proof bag?
Thank you :D |

I'd definitely use the tarp over the bag (and my other luggage) any time they're going to be in the rain for more than just a few minutes. And the wipes, yeah, use only on the outside of the camera & on lens glass (and inside your camera bag if it gets mildew, and in your luggage, and on your toothbrush) lol. I wouldn't trust anything inside my camera besides the fluids that are made for cleaning sensors.

Thanks Cindi, will do :)
So would this be the correct process:
- Keep gear in silica/zip lock till they need to be used
- Take shots ;) (how long can I keep the cam/gear out in the humidity?)
- Use Alchol Wipes
- Back in the Ziplock Silica before entering colder area like hotel room.
Many thanks :D

not sure it will pan out for you, or where exactly you'll be staying - but i was there during the rainy season a while ago, and it seemed to mainly rain at night. we were mainly on the coasts.
in the cloud forests it's likely to be much wetter.
