You have rated 202 of 202 images (100%) in this challenge.

Many many mid range (5-6) pictures in this challenge imo. IQ is okay or okay-ish, but only a couple of realy good images.

Or maybe better yet, know what the word means:
1. a two-dimensional representation of the outline of an object, as a cutout or configurational drawing, uniformly filled in with black, esp. a black-paper, miniature cutout of the outlines of a famous person's face.
2. a view of an object or scene consisting of the outline and a featureless interior.

Sheesh - the dnmc triggers are getting pulled hard, and 3 out of 5 comments are saying the same.

I wonder how much of this part of the challenge description is leading to the feedback you're getting?

From challenge description - "Here's the catch: the subject must not become a silhouette because of the backlighting."

The way the definition reads that you've posted is that backlighting should put the subject in silhouette ("...filled in with black", "...featureless interior").

Not really agreeing or disagreeing, just making an observation.

In the FWIW column, (since this is a scores thread), I've just slipped under the 5 mark myself. :/ But then again, I took a calculated risk (and missed). :)

I was listing the definition of what a silhouette is.
So, if it doesn't fit that definition, then it is not a silhouette.

Pphheewww! I guess the reason it sounded like a silhouette definition is because it is. :P

I get your point now. Sorry for the interruption.

I believe you're right... One of my comments says something about a big black area in the foreground of my picture. Only problem is that this area is not black...

Maybe mine is also too silouette-like? Even in the thumbnail, I can see detail, so I thought it would be OK. Wish I had some comments so I'd know why my score's so low.

I worked very hard on the capture, when I discovered my backlit plants didn't look backlit at all, but it still was the best shot I got, not exactly what I wanted.

It's creeping up this morning, but the best I can say is at least it will edge out something on my profile, lol.

Only one comment so far so no way to know why it's taking a swan dive.

PS..Calibrated my monitor a long time ago.... :)

One thing for those that use LCD monitors - when editing or viewing, if you get up high over the monitor and look down at a sharp angle, you will see what you have been missing. I make a point of checking mine that way, especially when preparing prints. Most would be amazed at what will show in the deepest shadows or the brightest areas.

ETA: Look from all angles. Certain angles will reveal "stuff" in what looks to be all-white, and other angles show more in the shadows.

Ouch! Looked at mine using this tip and I see what you mean. Thanks for the tip.
How do you turn off the scoring? Don't want to keep watching my score fall. I'll just wait til the end.

Thanks again for the tip Brad.

Does anyone else pay attention to the AVG vote cast and the AVG vote rec'd of people in the thread and Challenge results images? People who leave you comments? *shrugs...I guess I am more generous in my scoring.
Many times...the higher the AVG vote rec'd for a particular photographer...the lower their average vote is for others. I just found that to be an interesting tidbit of information.

I guess I get what I deserve for doing a late, final hour entry last night.. lol. I really have to take pictures sooner in the week.

As you get better as a photographer, you also see more flaws in other shots. This is similar to the relation of non-camera voters vs. with-camera voters; I often experienced, that not-so-good shots are rated higher by non-camera-users than by users w/ camera - and, interestingly, vice versa

Well i hope some of you appreciate my comment - I have to say there were quite a few images that were let down by sharpness and a few that didn't scream backlighting - Good luck to all - There are easily a few that stand out from amongst the rest.

You have rated 201 of 202 images (100%) in this challenge.
You have commented on 201 of 202 images (100%) in this challenge.

Why does it have to scream backlighting? Backlighting is a technique that should enhance the image not overwhelm it IMHO.

Yes I did Jeff, Thank You.
You clearly saw it wasn't a silhouette. Go show people how to calibrate their monitors as the second part of your voting - lol
