What's with the Road Signs challenge? I mean, folks make suggestions all the time for challenges & we get this one? Revisted? I think some of the shots are ok but how exciting & challenging can a shot of a road sign be?

I dont get the fascination. Someone clue me in!

It can be really challenging to get a good quality shot of a Road sign. It seems that they do this challenge every year because that is what the first challenge was.

Wouldn't mind seeing one of those 24 hour challenges as there hasen't been one since I have been a member.

My Bad! That makes sense. Hey, Happy Birthday, in that case! I didnt notice it the first time around!

Still, I don't like the challenge topic.
Oooh, a 24 hour challenge would be cool since there hasnt been one since I became a member!

I felt the same way about this challenge, so I try to take a different approach to road signs and I am not doing to well. I am sitting at a 4.6 with only one comment. I thought my idea was unique but maybe to unique for this challenge. Oh well it was fun none the less.

As for a 24 hour challenge I would like to see one of those as well! I would also like to see a painted with light challenges for the open challengers.

I didn't enter the road sign challenge. According to the cop who wrote me a ticket last Sunday I can't see road signs....oh well! One bad experience with a road sign last week was enough for me!

ok but, road signs as the 1st challenge ever? is there something behind it in the 1st place?

It's not a conspiracy and there was/is no hidden meaning.
It was the best shot of the bunch, people voted it high, it won first place. :*)
For me personally it's always fun seeing all the different road signs from around the world.
It can be expensive to replace a simple stop sign. I had one jump out in front of me when I was a teenager learning to drive. Cop didn't buy my story and charged me $135.00 for the replacement.

I think there definitely are exciting ways of shooting a road sign - but voters may not get round to the shot due to falling a sleep in front of yet another STOP sign. ;)

With almost every challenge (Tacky Christmas excluded!!) I try to take a shot that I would either hang on my wall or be happy to see repeatedly. If I can't achieve that then I don't like to enter.

I hasten to add that I didn't follow this philosophy to start with. :/

It's funny really, I tend to take photos of road signs from time to time just for the fun of it. Like this one, taken around Christmas time:

It just worked out that this challenge came up a pretty bad week for me and I really wasn't too happy with the photo I entered. It's showing in my score too. I'm pretty disappointed because last year road signs was one of my better results.

All I saw was someone taking photos of kids sitting on Santa's lap. And no, it wasn't this Santa.

Road signs are fun, interesting, and educational ... I don't think they need to be "great art" to fulfill a legitimate photographic purpose.

I have a strange suspicion that Michael Jackson is somehow involved here. Just a gut feeling.

I'm not aware of Michael Jackson having been in South Africa anytime recently:)
