I have a canon 5D, what's the largest acceptable print size I can get out of this camera? |

Depends on the viewing distance! What kind of camera do you think takes those huge billboard pictures you see on the side of the road??? :-)
Seriously, if you're looking at the image really close, then 20x30 might be a bit grainy. But if you stand back at a proper distance for looking at a 20x30, it's going to look GREAT!

That entirely depends on the definition of acceptable, among other things. Assuming that the lens used doesn't degrade performance, and that the print will be viewed from normally-accepted distances, then probably somewhere between 150 and 200 dpi, which means you maximum print size is somewhere between 15x22.5 inches (at just under 200 dpi) to 20x30 inches (at just under 150dpi).
Honestly, I would not be afraid to print at 20x30 inches. I'd probably upsample prior to sending to the printer. |

I had this pic printed as a 20x30 and you can look at it with a loupe and not see ANY grain. And it was shot with my lowly 8MP 1D II...

20x30 on a well-done image (no underexposure) is no problem at any distance. I've done it many times. Your returns go down from that point. 30x45 is doable at a reasonable viewing distance, but will probably not hold up at a foot away. This is especially true if you have a comparison on hand like a 30x40 MF print. |
