We all look for photo op's and sometimes we create them. What event or photo op has been your favorite and why?

Mine, by far, is the trip I took last summer. The gallery is HERE

I was on the road for three weeks driving out to Seattle and back and going through many National Parks on our route. (We drove out for my niece's graduation receiving her Doctorate degree.) I was so amazed at going that far for that long and having nothing go wrong. I will always remember what a special trip it was to take with my daughter (and my sis!) I think I got some great shots as well, and simply soaked in the entire experience.

I love road trips and I hope to do another next summer with my hubby and daughter.

Because I own a business I go on a rather large trip once a month and always look forward to these trips as photo opportunities. I love the countryside and I am always thinking, "that would be great and thats a good shot".

Great Lakes Folk Festival:

I should add that the reason this is my favorite is because it combines two of the things I love the most. Photography and Music. The result is usually greater than either alone...

I'm with Sunniee on this one, I love Maui (or any of the Hawaiian islands for that matter). I'm going in September; it will be my first trip there since getting my new camera so I am SUPER excited!

Oops, edit to add the 'why'...

1) the fantastic weather
2) snorkeling/diving in the fantastic ocean
3) spending time in paradise

Looks very similar to what we did just a few weeks ago! We drove from Pittsburgh to Seattle to catch a cruise to Alaska. We also stopped at Yellowstone, Wall Drug, the Badlands and Mount Rushmore. Your photos are great! I'm gonna eventually get some of my trip shots uploaded here...

Great pics. Got me looking at my calendar to see if I can spare a week in Yellowstone before the weather goes south.

Did you find your 300mm telephoto to be adequate for most situations? I saw you got a lot of good wildlife shots.

Well, I was fairly new to using both the camera and the lens when I took that trip, so I could probably do better now. I think more than anything, a lens with IS would have been an improvement. Now, I've never used an IS lens, so I could be wrong on that. It just seemed like trying to catch the wildlife shots quickly, at a long zoom, the number of useable shots would have increased with a bit of IS help.

The 300 length was fairly sufficient I'd say. We did not do any real hiking, as my sis has a bum knee, so most of my shots were from the car! If you are really into wildlife shots, I would go a little longer and try something with the IS. For my expectations, I was happy with what I had.

My favourite photo ops turned out to be quite un-eventful. I'm inspired by a sense of locale, mainly. The presence of people usually diminishes this kind of experience, unless incidental.

The idea of choosing a favourite, too, brings things down a little. To favour a thing, really, is to separate many things. I prefer coherence, a coherent experience.

And then, when one presents itself, out of the blue or from brown earth, for a second or two, I am new long enough to take a picture, if then I, too, am awake, present and attuned enough

to come away with an incidental image.

So...your favorite photo op is "life"? I do love how photography tends to open our eyes with a new perspective on typically ordinary events. The trick, for me, is to not let photography sometimes get in the WAY of enjoying a moment or event. Ever get so wrapped up in "getting the shot" that you really didn't enjoy the moment?

Hardcore shows are definitely my favorite thing to shoot. So much attitude and energy that you cant help but get some great shots.

I like shooting little league football. For one, the action is slow so I can follow it. :) But, mainly because it preserves a moment that is important to the kids and their parents.

Other than that, I like being able to photograph kids and hearing their parents say, "Wow, you really captured their personality in that one!"

Ha, this is the exact reason why I hate shooting little league sports a lot. There is no pace or rhythm to the game, so most shots the kids look to be standing around. I think once you get into the 6th grade age kids, then you start to have a little more excitement in the game.
