Especially for a group of people that take pictures all day long! For Heavens sake, take him on an already planned shoot, spend 10 extra minutes getting some quick photos of him and be done with it. It really shouldn't take more than a week or two at the most for each person to complete their leg of the journey. |

Hard. Very hard. I have 3 ducks (of my own, not Seymour or friends) and only one has seen the light of my flash. :P |

Ya know, this started out as a fun little project (I really enjoyed participating in it myself with "The Band"), but I can't help but think the fun kinda got sucked out of it when each post about the project got more and more defensive and combative.
Yes, some folks have obviously dropped the ball (or the duck as the case may be) along the way, but this has gone from being a potentially fun project into a thread that has literally been tedious to watch. I'm just being honest here... I can understand the frustration, but I think a gentle PM to nudge people along the way would have been more effective than:

Lesson learned. |

And what you don't know is the fact that I have sent multiple polite private messages encouraging people to take the photos and send the ducks on their way. As I have said I am done now.
It stopped being a fun project for me when I had to start sending message reminders day after day. When you sign up for something and know to take a few photos and send him on what kind of reminders do you need?

Yeah, I'm on rex's side here, at least in Seymour's case. I figured the Friends would only make it a few legs before they drifted into obscurity since people didn't "sign up" for those and there was no clear progression of who to send them to next. But there are 50 people who signed up to see Seymour through his journey and it is damn inconsiderate for people to toss him in a corner for weeks or months and stalling the project (and depriving the rest of us from having our turn). So I don't blame James for getting upset -- hell, I am too. If you've got a duck and no time to do anything with it, toss it in the mail to the next person or even back to James so he can move it on its way. |

I'm with alanfreed on this one. Sorry to stir things up rex, but when I PM'd you I figured you would contact Jeff via PM and see what's up. Since its your project, I figured you would want to. I did not see a need to call anyone out in the forums, and thought, incorrectly, you'd feel the same. Fact is, you have sent multiple PMs in the past, but so far as I know you never sent one to Jeff, and certainly never to me, asking where things stood. When I saw your post, I bit my tongue and resisted the urge to sound off. Now that I know where things stand, I can respond.
I PM'd JeffDay, and just heard back. Turns out he's been layed up since the holidays and unable to shoot. If you'd have checked his profile (like I did), you'd have seen its been a while since he entered a challenge, which suggested something might be up. I think you owe him an apology by jumping to the conclusion that he -- or anyone else who didn't turn the duck around as quickly as you'd like -- was just being lazy.
Anyway, I PM'd loudDog, who's next on the list, and asked him to PM Jeff or me with his address and we'll get this thing started again. After all, this is supposed to be fun, right? |

To be fair, you might have prevented the delays by setting some sort of deadline up front ("you must shoot and/or forward Seymour to the next person within a week"). I received The Band (without volunteering and without instructions) before I ever saw this thread and it didn't seem to be much of a priority- just sort of a "whenever you get around to it" thing. In my case, the duckies arrived just when I got super busy. When it became clear that I wouldn't get to them for a few more weeks, I forwarded them on, but THAT person didn't get around to shooting either and I wound up getting them back. While I can understand your disappointment, it doesn't appear that you set any kind of expectations for urgency or deadlines.

I signed up for Seymour in KY .. I think I'm going to gracefully bow out. We are looking for a new home and because of the delays in shipping to the next place, by the time Seymour gets here I'm probably going to be gone. If anyone wants my KY spot they can have it :) |

You can all be mad I could give a shit less.
I believe I posted somewhere to please spend max 3 or so days with the duck and move on. The other ducks were just a fun addition to the project. I am not as concerned about those as I am about Seymour.
You can say I should have pm'ed people all you want but I am not going to hold everyone's hand. I gave up on this a while back and will drop my name from it as well. Someone can burn Seymour for all I care.
Part of the reason I am debating my membership here is the fact that most want me to hold their f'in hands on a project that THEY signed up for. I should never have to pm anyone to keep it going. And now my name is out of the hat.
Someone else can have this project.

Looks like this is one dead duck.
I ain't mad. Just shaking my head at the negative vibe. I'll look forward to seeing Seymour again whenever that is. Still a worthwhile project in my book. |

I realize that rex is out of this, but does anyone else have any idea what is happening with this project. Has it just been abandoned? |

Seymour arrived here in Alaska a bit ago. Sorry for the delay but he wanted to wait until his courses were completed to show everyone his graduation photo. Seymour is now a basic firefighter and a medic.
When he was shipped to me, he did not have his travel itinerary so I am not sure who was next in line. Please email me James with who you had next after Alaska. |

I just wanted to let you know that Seymore has been at my house in Idaho for a few weeks and he's having a good time! I'm not done taking him on adventures yet, but I wanted to give you an update on what he's been doing.
I'm a bird watcher and every morning I like to sit and watch the birds around the feeders in my tree. This morning Seymore decided he wanted to help in hopes of making some new birdy friends. I sat him out in the tree for a while hoping that he would be accepted by the finches and the mourning doves, but apparently they don't take kindly to strangers in their tree and no one wanted to sit by him. He was very sad and tried to jump out of the tree, but I saved his life and he's now sitting on my dresser waiting for another adventure. I'm going to try to take Seymore out to see the Welcome to Idaho sign, but I'm not sure if I'm going to be able to make it out there with him or not. I'll find something fun to do with him in the next week or so though and then I'll send him on to the next person!
Stay tuned for further adventures of Seymores trip to Idaho! :)

well if he takes a trip back with me, he will go through idaho , Utah, probably Nevada as i will get lost, then arizona.
so minus the Nevada place, that adds two more states onto his trip! |

Shouldn't it go to the persons that signed up for Utah and Nevada?
