This is going to be a super side challenge.
It occurs to me that if the size of this side challenge gets unwieldy, we could form two teams (and two threads),
named (not necessarily originally)
Team Black
Team White
And vie for bragging rights at the end on which team gave the most comments, had the most entries, had the most people who made it to the end, etc, etc. |

Why shoot B/W, when humans see things in color?
When was the last time you watched a B/W TV?
Please answer Why shoot B/W black and white?

So is the deal post a B&W per day? Or capture a B&W per day? Photos taken during the challenge period? One per day captures?

Generally, you shoot and post a photo a day and then you also comment on a bunch of other people's photos. The commenting is as much part of the game as the shooting and posting.
Most often, people will tucker out because of life commitments, which is perfectly fine. If you miss a day or five - don't worry.
Side challenges are a wonderful way to learn a ton about photography and to practice in a no-stress environment (versus the official challenges). |

Count me in. But can I submit black photos on odd days and white photos on even days? Makes the white balance and contrast a no-brainer. :)

only problem I have with this is that I would want to comment on images without worrying about whether they are on the wrong team. :) A really big challenge makes it harder to see everyone's work, but as far as comments, we should get just as many as ever, really, assuming everyone makes just as many comments as they would on a smaller side challenge. There are more images to comment on, but there are that many more people making comments. The only thing we lose out on in a really big one is the ability to get around to seeing everyone's pictures.
I think maybe a good "challenge" for this challenge would be to have each person set a daily number of pictures for which he/she will try to be the first or second commenter -- and then comment on as many as we want after that. That way there's a smaller chance that some images will get no comments at all.
It would be really cool if there was a function where we could have one common gallery for all our shots, that we could browse through like a slideshow (sounds like a **coughcough** flickr group, or a standard dpchallenge challenge without the voting), making comments as we go, rather than going back and forth to the thread and opening a ton of tabs (my current method, anyway).

I just saw this - I think it's an excellent idea - with or without bragging rights. That way the side will be a little more manageable.
It will be  Lowcivicman99's decision. |

I am such a goober. I kept seeing this thread and thinking, "I don't remember a bw side challenge. And why are they bumping one that is that old?" I don't know if I was thinking 2006 or what!
I know the list is long, but I love bw, and have been doing a bw for my Photo a Week blog.

I am seeing more and more people coming into this side challenge... I am worried I won,t have enough time to correctly vote/view all of the images. I really like the suggestion of committing to being the 1st/2nd commenter on x number of images.
If you're quick on the web, you can choose which images you comment on. If (like me) you can visit once a day and not for very long at a time, I'll be commenting on the pictures that don't yet have a comment - ensuring everyone learns in the process, not just the most striking images. |

I have added you all to the list. We still have room for people if they want to join... Also I am going to set up a poll for those of you in the room that would like to spilt the teams up. I think there are pro's anc cons to both but it's all about fun right. So lets see what you guys think.

Well I can not contribute much to this thread. But I do have one photo I guess it would be worth a look.

Gotta go with one thread myself, but I can live with split too...I was in the last B&W SC and from that and the 50 day SC, I know that life gets in the way and not all that start will finish or post every day, after the first week or so posts will begin to taper off and it will be less massive. Just my thoughts...

okay so apparently I forget how to create my own poll on my own site so I had to use one from an outside source Anyway here is a poll that we can all take that is simple and easy and shouldn't give us any problems. If it does would someone please let me know.
