I've read the basic editing requirements and I have a question (they can be sometime vague or I need more cofee).
Is a photographer allowed to edit his/her photo in basic editing that changes the look and feel of the photo? For example, to add a filter that makes it surreal. Is this considered still basic editing?

You mean HDR/tonemapping?
Best to submit a sample to the site council and ask for guidance. |

you can use filters in PS that are applied to the complete picture, no selections. E.g. warming/cooling filters.
Effect filters are not allowed. |

Thanks, I have another question regarding basic editing.
Can one desaturate everytyhing except a part to bring out your subject?
Here is an example:

You can desat as long at the you do not use a selection for the desat.
You can remove all the green, for example, from an image in Photoshop with Hue/Saturation tool by selecting Green and sliding the desat slider all the way to the left.
You can not select an element of the photo and desat just that element.
You can, however, do that in Advanced editing. |
