I just bought the Rebel 350D. I am charging the battery up as I type. I went for the black body (no special reason really), but I sure don't like the look and feel of this camera compared to my 300D. I don't quite know what it is. They only reason I bought it was for a back-up body since I have signed agreements to shoot weddings. I couldn't really justify the extra money in a body when I REALLY REALLY want new lenses. Hopefully, I will get more referrals for weddings here and be able to justify something like the 5D...droooool. Anyone else felt disappointed going from the 300D to the 350D?

I have both. I got a XT first and a 300D to convert to IR. I like the XT body a lot better, its a bit smaller and more compact. I think the layout of controls are better as well.

It is a better camera, it has more functions and it can shoot faster. I find the 300 to be a bit slow compared to the XT.

I bet once you get used to it you will love it. For weddings, the XT should be your primary and the 300 as your backup.

I have an XT and I love it. You will learn to fall in love with it too. Give it a little time. It's a great camera.

Trust me you won't regret it. Its a excellent fun camera to use. Once you use it and get custom to using it you will love it.

You won't regret it. The XT is a great little camera that will pull more than it's weight in good pictures. And since it's so small, any lens will look HUGE when you mount it on there. :)

The only way you could ever regret it is if you get to use a Nikon D200 some day. lol

Just kidding you will enjoy your new toy no doubt about it.

I know the 350D is smaller than the 300D but after you get use to is it feels quite good in your hands. Even for someone like me with large hands. Now I wish I could just get my 350XT back so I can start shooting again.

I skipped the 350 bit and went to the 30D, then got a 20D used for backup for weddings ($550 last year with 4k clicks on it). I find the 350/400 too small for me. But then I wanted a 20D when I got the 300 but couldn't afford it, so I promised myself i'd get the 20D repleacement the day it came out. I did. I now am promising myself I'll wait for the price drop on the 40D...

There is NO COMPARISON between the older 300 and 20D to the newer 30D (and I think the 350) in terms of speed of the camera's processor.
I plan to get the new 40D shortly after it's releases and the 20D will be kept, but not used very much.

Consider used gear - it works and is a lot cheaper. The few things Ive bought new is because I couldn't find them used, or the price used was very close to new (L lenses for example).

Okay, so I clicked a few snapshots yesterday to get a better feel for the camera. You are right, I could get used to this thing. I can't wait to put it to work this weekend on bridals.

I do have a question though. Why does the numbers on my photo files seem to be picking up where the 300D left off? How will I know how many clicks i have done on the 350D? Example: IMG_3252 instead of IMG_0001

its because its basically the same camera with a little bit of upgrades and it uses the same numbering system for file names. I know it sucks..... but what I do for both my Rebel XT and XTI is I use certain memory cards for each camera that way I know how many have been taken on my new XTI.

Because you just screwed up the image counter by using your old card in the new camera without a format. Thats a problem in the consumer camera lines that canon has.

oops forgot to mention that...

if you have more than one card just format that card in your Rebel XT also if you want your XT to start numbering from the #1 in your file names tell your camera to reset the numbering

Though the XT is considered an entry-level dSLR, or as some call it, a "Soccer-Mom" camera, I've found mine to be a workhorse, nearing 35,000 shots on it, and never one problem. My XT has become an extension of my hands and can make all changes without even taking my eye out of the viewfinder. It's comfortable, familiar and friendly. Get used to it and in time, I'm sure you will feel the same.
I'd rather own an XT with good lenses, than have a 5D or MKIII with cheap lenses.
