I have turned OFF my scores, and SERIOUSLY thinking of retiring.....

I have one of my BEST scores to date, running alongside of two of my WORST..... SCORES.....
I want to dig a hole, and hide for the next week, until it is all over.
I feel like a complete idiot. I feel like I am totally loosing the plot.

Hopefully with my scores turned OFF for a few days, it will allow me to rethink my silly suggestion of retiring, and realize what I have done wrong, and hopefully get back on track..... I feel totally like a beginner. I been doing this now for two years, so really have no excuses.

The one thing that hopefully will keep me going, is that, I still LOVE photography and DPC, and everybody here.....

Just not two of my current entries in challenges.....

Oh! the shame..... the shame.....

Cheer up, try not to let scores bother you so much. I used to worry about them and nearly went crazy.

Your photography is wonderful and adored by many, that is far more important than a score in an online contest.. DPC is more than just a contest.

Turn off scores is a good idea
Retire is a very bad idea.

Please accept my (((HUG))) and have a nice cup of tea and blow the scores.

Hi Sherryl

Don't give up! You have some of the most wonderful shots in your collection and lot of great scoring entries. It's just a hiccup.

I do know how you feel, I have two entries that are scoring under 5. This is the first time I have ever had that (and reminds me why I hardly ever enter challenges!)

Turning your scores off is probably a good thing for a day or so. I'm planning on doing the same. But please don't quit on us.

Keep your chin up and remember, everyone has a bad day occasionally!

Hey Shez,

No need to worry, as long as you love photography the fire is still there inside. We all recieve a crappy score or 2 now and then.(some more than others, like me :) ) But chin up and just keep going. I Hope that you stay cause I love all the comments and your photos in your portfolio and I think you would be robbing the users here at DPC of a very nice person and some really good photos.

Big Hugs Straight from New Hampshire USA,

Rich

No need to do that Sherpet, just because a photo doesn't do well doesn't mean it's not a good photo. Besides, even if it is a bad photo, you can step back after the challenge, look at why it's flawed and learn and grow from the photo. I do belive you will learn more from your bad photos than you ever will from your good ones. You have great stuff and even the best of the best go through slumps. Your frustrated right now, but you won't retire b/c it's not your style to give up! Best wishes and leave them scores off for a while! Trevy!

Well I seriously didn't expect you to be the author of this post - I am stunned.

If you'd kindly take a look at this link...

Stunning works I admire

Then you will SEE what I SEE!

A REMARKABLE photographer who is currently experiencing a moment of 'humaness' - GRIN!

It bites to tank on one or more images - but dear sweet woman, it's not WHO you are - it's just a glitch - we ALL have them, and unfortunately they live in our profiles to remind us - GRIN!

I hope this is just a momentary lapse of confidence and nothing more.

Photography IS you - you ARE a photographer and this would be a far poorer place without you and your loving and giving spirit around - not to mention those BRILLIANT photos your produce!

Thinking of you,

Lisa

Shez! Stop the silly talk about retiring.

Keep those scores off this week (and don't cheat on yourself my dear friend!). Enjoy the act and the art of photography and don't worry about a set of numbers. I have had stretches were I really am upset about the scores and then realize is it all very silly in the long run. I remember that I like the photos and am happy with them and move on...

You are a bright shining light here at DPC and we all would be far worse off without you around.

Big Hugs!
Peter

Hi Sherpet,

I have the same thing with this site. My pictures consistently do pretty crappy even though I love them. It's just a matter of style and taste. You're a great photographer in your own right with a great eye so don't let bad scores dissuade you from a hobby you love.

I havent entered a challenge in a while here because they all bore me and i dont think the way i shoot stuff is really cohesive to what this site is looking for but i still go out and shoot for my own benefit so i can print the 8x10 and stick on my wall and think "yeah, i did that". And that's what its all about for me. Do it for yourself.

I agree that turning the scores off might be a good idea, but don't give up just because of some numbers. You've got a great style that is entirely your own. You're able to see the beauty in your surroundings and then capture them in stunning works of art. It'd be a shame for us to lose you and a worse shame for you to lose your passion.

GOLLY GOSH..... Now I know why I LOVE DPC.....

It is people like you here with the above comments that makes me want to stay.

I was and am so PEEVED with myself..... I know in the back of my mind, that an image may not be of a good standard, but I still GO and PUT it into a challenge.

I DO know I am over processing images most of the time, and I know it is my site that is causing most of my problems, so that is one thing I am trying to correct.

I thank you all for being there for me, and I AM DEFINATELY KEEPING MY SCORES OFF UNTIL THE WEEKEND..... hopefully until Sunday at least.

Actually, that is how I started... I was going to leave the score off for a few days and so far it's been over a year.

I truly do love this site, but I rarely enter competitions anymore and truly don't care. Seeing that I am an abject failure in competitions, I now take images of things I like.

On the grand scheme of things, a few low scores truly don't amount to much anyway and will have little impact on your average. Besides, people like you for who you are and not your score.

Have a great day and happy shooting.

I back this up 100% =) mind you I'm bad as well I do get TOO much into it and get mad at my scores lol I guess it's every1s competitive side that does this... and naturally you want your entry to do to be the best.

My scores seem to be getting worst and worst every week! But to be honest it has made me determined to go out and try even harder and I have seen loads of improvement on my work. So even if the scoring here doesn't make for that, it'll still be evident in your work!

By the way how do you turn the scores off?

Go to the tab at the top on the page, and go down to My Preferences, and you will find it there in the column to the right and just take the tick of the scores one, and remember to go to the bottom of the page and save it.

I think feeling bad about it is probably a notch higher than not feeling anything at all. Indeed, although it's little comfort, discontent really does motivate learning and change. Being satisfied doesn't (it is nice though).

Darkness surrounds you. Light empties you.

I actually have a picture that I cropped, edited and entered, before seeing that the uncropped original was 'better'. So I entered the uncropped (but slightly edited) original and now I'm getting dead low scores and comments about how I should have cropped it. Also that it's 'too dark'.

They're obviously well meant and honest comments for which I'm grateful, but when they're your pictures; you decide.

If all your scores were great, we would have to change your name to Scalvert. Keep plugging along. I really like your photos.

low scores only means that you must be doing something right.

What he said. And have a look at my recent scores (well, look two weeks back), so many 5ish scores and I even dared to self DQ my "Lucky 7" entry...
08/15/2007 07:44:23 AM · #22
What they all said. 7 of my last 10 scores are 5's (mid to low many of them) and my current FS is sitting on a whopping 4.9. Most of us go through periods of drudgery when it comes to updating. Hang in there Shez. It all turns around.

I an so moved beyond words.....

I have tears of joy running down my cheeks, as I write this.

I am so blessed by the wonderful people like you, who really do care about others.

I am for once speechless.....

T.H.A.N.K.S. H.E.A.P.S. especially for your kind words and support, and private PM's, and emails.

In your honor (and to eradicate the pain of watching a sub-5 score) I've turned my scores off as well. I used to keep them off all the time, but being here where I'm hot, bothered, annoyed, and generally out of sorts a lot of the time (and in this case, it ain't the place or the things going "boom", but that's neither here nor there) I left them on for something to look forward to when I got a chance to check in. Now I'll just wait to see if there are any comments, which I suspect there won't be.

Hang in there!

My scores are off anyway. This week is the first challenge I've entered for 3 months, and I fully expect an insanely low score as a reward for my flagrant disregard for DPC norms. ;) The thing is though, that when rollover comes I wont care, because I have entered a shot I like, and that's what counts. If I get one other person who likes it, then even better.
