I would like to see a page that shows who the most active voters are. Both for all time, and current. Maybe something like week, month, year, lifetime voting averages. # of images, and maybe an average vote cast. I think it would encourage people to vote. Votes counts are getting so low, that there is lots of room for foul play. I would like to see the voters get out there and vote on images. |

Just curious, what is the basis of this statement?

I Think it's a great idea. I know I do not vote for every challenge, sometimes not even for a challenge I have entered. IF, the voting were calculated into having a "Member Points Acumulated" sort of thing it would probably encourage more voing on my part. |

Well if there is only 10 votes and somebody decides to cheat, 1 vote can swing the results pretty heavy. So if there were 1000 votes that 1 vote would not have much of an impact. So more votes, less chance of any poor voting having an effect on the outcome of the contests. Nobody can tell me that there is not questionable voting going on, we have bans, and scrubbing going on all the time. I am not faulting the system, you will never do away with the bad voting, but I think that something that encourages voters to vote would be a good thing. I sort of think that voters have been less encouraged to vote due to many diffrent circumstances, and this might help swing that pendulum in the other direction.

But when have you seen any challenges anywhere near 10 votes? Or less than 100, for that matter? The lowest count I can find since 2003 was the Weekend challenge, with an average of 107 votes per entry.
So again, Jason, what do mean when you say that vote counts are "getting so low"?
Let's work with 100 to keep it simple. If 99 people vote something an 8 and someone votes it a 1, it'd still be a 7.93. It really takes a fair amount of cheating to have a major impact. And there are processes in place to strip out chronically low votes, as well as targeted voting.
I suggest that people leave the vote policing to the Site Council and focus on photography, voting, and commenting.

Where does the foul play come into effect? There are steps in place to prevent the so called 'troll' voting. I keep hearing about how the so called 'troll' voters are bringing everyones scores down but the statistics show that it's not a problem... Yeah I know there've been a couple of individuals caught at it but this only proves that the system works as it's intended.
The community here at DPC has grown significantly over the last 18-24 months. The statistics that I've seen have shown that voting trends have not changed all that much. The problem is that there are so many more entries now than before. Let's say the average voter is likely to make (making up a number) 300 votes a week. This means that a photo will get way more votes when there are 200 images in each of three challenges than when there are 500 images in each...
Edited to clarify my unauthorized statistical analysis.

I too would like to see this. I have been thinking of a way to get a result like this and was trying to find a way that it would help both sides of the graph.

We can't implement this, because it would make Alan's head too big to fit thru the SC lounge door! ;-) |

I used a small number for simplicity. I am really working with percentages. At 100 votes I think that people might have influence (directly or indirectly) over up to 10% of those 100 votes. I think people that are cheating have the ability to effect more than 1 vote. I would wager they have an influence of as many as 10. That would = 10% of the vote total if I used 100. So in your example 1 vote does not matter that much in a hundred, but 10 could = a ribbon, or a much lower score depending on which way the voting shifted.
Ok, we will work with 100 votes. Average score of 5 with 100 votes cast = 500. A person has influence over 10 votes (which with friends and family that seems like something that might be easily achieved for some), a person might have the ability to move the score as much as .5 either direction. If the vote count was higher there would be less opportunity for any cheating to have a noticeable effect.
Lets get the votes up above 500 instead of the 100 range where voting can be influenced.
My point is not to argue over the voting amounts. My goal was to say that it would be fun to look at how many times people vote. See when somebody voted 100,000 times, or that they voted 10,000 images a 3. I think that people might really take pride in voting, and might vote more of the challenges which would = more votes for each image, thus curving anybodies desire to try and stretch the scores. Really what I am asking is already being done in the profile, I think it would just be great to have those profile stats put on a single page so you could see who the top voters in are. |

I'll go so far as to say that not only should the top vote-caster be recognized, he (or she if that were the case, but it's not) should receive some sort of large cash prize, and possibly a special commemorative hat or something. |

This is a noble suggestion, but I'm at a loss as to how to implement it without encouraging "speed voting" as well as attention to vote counts at the expense of commenting.
Personally, I'd rather see someone vote thoughtfully and comment meaningfully on the minimum 20% in a challenge, than to "speed vote" all of them as quickly as the photos can load.

I could see that. Speed voting might be an issue, but I still think the more votes the better. Lets just give Alan a hat and call it a day. |

Agreed. There are already complaints about the lack of screen time an image gets now with voters. It's part of the reason simpler, "stock type", photos do a better job of selling/getting impact (higher votes) currently.
If anything, how about a way to reward voters that take more time in casting a vote rather than speed voting? (that should make the dial-up users look very good) :) |

I would still rather see 1000 votes over 100 comments any day. |

Would there be a way to combine most votes and most comments to make one super best voter stat?
And as far as clothing goes, I'm thinking commemorative jacket, like the Masters. |

I think it is funny that some images seem to get 10+ more votes than other images. I am not a conspiracy person, but this would be my global warming. |

Funny your entry got exactly 10 more votes than mine in the last free study and more than the blue ribbon winner. I am not a conspiracy person either, but Jason Cross would be my global warming.
