I think with the right "attitude" any comment can be helpful.
nice shot, good, boring, etc." translates to me to "This shot is technically okay. There is nothing glaringly wrong with it, but it is a bit boring and doesn't "grab" me."
When I get what seems to be an "unhelpful" comment, I ask myself, "What would cause me (or what has made me) want to leave such a comment." Then, I just assign a meaning to it. If the commenter doesn't want me to "assign" a meaning, he/she can be more verbose. :) Again, this has come about by giving comments. Even if I don't know what I am talking about, I do know what I like and why.
And I have several things to say about "mean" comments, but I can't get it worded correctly right now, and it comes out sounding condescending, which is not my intent at all. I may revisit it, later. |

You want to know what is real chicken shit behavior is calling out a bunch of voters for not commenting and then not returning to the thread to address the responses. Its like yelling insults from your moving car.
If you want to call everyone out, stay involved when they all come back at you.
I dont' comment on any of my 1 or 2 votes because really the photo is bad enough that there is no constructive critisism other than redo it completely. I comment on the higher votes because those could benefit from an opinion. Its like what a ski coach told me once, "Good wax gets you from 4th to 2nd not 45th to 10th." Get it. |

It's been a while since I checked; but if you remain hidden for one comment in a challenge, don't you have to remain hidden for all?

I believe that is true. After the challenge ends you are no longer hidden. It only stays in effect during voting. |

That's what I thought.
A bag-head may simply be trying to preserve anonymity of their own image in another comment they made. For example "Great angle. I wish I had thought of that when shooting my (insert subject here)."
When someone complains about bag-heads, they might want to consider that it could have nothing to do with them or their entry.
Regardless, I don't mind hidden commentors. Life is way toooo short! |

Yeah but does a low vote and a comment of everything about this sucks help you any more than just a low vote? |

I like to give bad pictures a high vote with a comment that tells them it sucks, just to play with their heads. |

NOT ME! When I read the comment: "say why you are voting low instead of hiding behind anonymity!" I get the very distinct impression his gripe is directed to those who prefer to hide their identity during the voting process.

You can't reveal your vote except in a comment. If you comment without revealing your vote there's no way to determine if the vote that just came in is connected to the comment that just came in. It's usually just coincidence since a lot of people comment on the 2nd run through. |

You are absolutely right... The point I was trying to make is that in all probability the OP was equating "Bagheads" with low votes and accusing them of being spineless.

That's not the way I read it. I think he is saying that the anonymity is in clicking the low number without telling him why. |

I wasn't suggesting you were but using it as a jumping off point for my comment. Could have stood on it's own but it seemed convenient. |

It's always nice to read comments about a photo you've taken. But man, if you can't accept that other people might not like them, then you have some issues! I like putting mine up to share, and hopefully someone pays me a compliment. But let's face it, most of us are here for the feedback to improve. I know I am... and I'm a long way from people always kissing my butt about my pics! |

YEAH!
And that goes for all you !$%#-ers that give me a 10 without telling me how amazingly awesome and really really (really) good looking I am!
Why don't you tell me why you are voting high instead of hiding behind your anonymity? How can I replicate my genius if you don't tell me (in tremendous detail) about my awesomeness and geniusness?!?!
