Eugene, I will be driving (a VW bug) from Delray Beach. You are welcome to ride with me. HOWEVER, I will only be participating through the morning of the 6th, when I must drive back home for a prior commitment.

Let me know if this will help. I would enjoy the company on the drive.

Robert, you can change my status to definite. I made my hotel reservations for Islamorada and Marathon. I'll be driving home on the 6th.

Do you have a time frame in mind for meeting at Anhinga Trail? Shall we all wear red ribbons or something to find each other? There is always a slew of photographers there, so the cameras won't help with the identification.

That has yet to be determined. In coming to this decision, it would help to know when everybody will be arriving to the Miami area or the visitors center at the Everglades.

For reference, the Miami International Airport is pretty much in the center of Miami-Dade County and is approximately 45 minutes from the Everglades visitor center. Fort Lauderdale airport is about 1 hour 15 minutes from the visitor center.

If everyone would post their expected arrival times to the visitor center, we could determine a good meeting time that would work for most or all of the attendees without keeping the earliest arrivals waiting too long. For those who will be arriving significantly later than most of us, they can go directly to Islamorada and meet us there.

With all the above in mind, I ask all attendees to please post when you expect to arrive at the Everglades visitors center.

Hello all,

It is definite. Greg got the time off (close call, someone else already had it off in his small area), and we will arrive in Ft. Lauderdale on Monday, Oct.1 in the late evening. We can be at the Visitor Center anytime from early morning on.

we'll fly out on the afternoon of the 9th.

I will be driving from Delray Beach. That is about 2 hours from the Everglades Nat. Park Florida City entrance and the park headquarters Ernest F. Coe Visitors Center. So almost any meeting time will be okay for me.

We land at 10AM, and I figure that it will take an hour to get out bags and pull the rental car. So, leaving the airport around 11, that would put us there around 12:30 or so. I know that this is probably later than some of you guys want to get started, so we will gladly catch up with you later. I also told Nikolai that he could ride along with us, so if he gets in a little later than that, it could put us back a hair.

One reservation to go and we are all set. Robert, thanks sooooo much for putting this one together. I am really excited about all this seeing the itinerary. Great work!

You're very welcome Eric. I really want this to a memorable GTG for everyone who makes it and an enviable one for those who can't. I had a great time at the Red Rock GTG and in St. Augustine and I'm trying to make sure that I think of everything for this one.

If Cutter joins us (haven't heard from him yet) and Tll061 comes like he said he would in the previous thread, then we've got the Red Rock crowd plus quite a few more. I hope those two make it down here.

No matter what though, we are going to have a great time.

Awww, c'mon Tom. Yellowstone and the Grand Tetons will always be there, but your DPC buds will probably only make a GTG like this only once.

After 4 days of trying (I know it was a holiday weekend and they were probably jammed) I was able to make my reservation at the Southwind in KW. My hint would be to call the 305 number not the 800.

Robert thanks for setting this up, it's going to be a great time I am sure.

That's great John. I know a lot of people committed, but it's a relief to see that many have now made their reservations. It makes it feel even more that it's going to happen. Not that I doubt it now, but this is going to be a long GTG and I wasn't sure a month or two ago that enough people would be able to take several days to a week off to come down here.

It is definitely going to be a good crowd and a great time.

The flight is in order, the rental car reserved and the hotels are all booked. Now I've got to wait a damn month (unless I can get one stinkin little day off to go hang out with Tom in the Tetons, but the boss is being a hard ass). Man, this is gonna be a blast. See you guys soon!

Yup, I'll have it. You are more than welcomed to play with it.

All the reservations are made. Plane, car, hotel/motel.

My next step is to get an underwater "housing" so I can get some of the fun shots while snorkeling.

Just one month until it's time.

Robert - thanks for getting the hotel/motels lined up. It was sooooo easy. Thanks.

You are all very welcome. I enjoyed organizing this GTG and the real payoff will be when it all unfolds and everybody has a good trip in the Keys and shows off their pictures afterwards. I look forward to seeing what you all capture and which ones you will consider 'keepers'.

I put together a quick map of various points of interest. Please correct me if I made a mistake or if something needs to be added.

On first glance that looks FANTASTIC!!! Thanks a lot for puttiing it together.

When I have more time I'll let you know about a few places that we might want to visit so that you can add to it.

Excellent! I was considering doing the same, but got distracted.

Hey Nicolai, here are a few stops that you might want to add to the map...

Theater of the Sea
Wild Bird Center (Tavernier/Key Largo)
Tarpon feeding at Robbie's Marina
Dolphin Research Center
Seven Mile Bridge
Pigeon Key

I'll see if I've got more on my list when I find it.
