So wild idea, late at night:

What about a challenge that you could submit any of your work no matter what date. 10 years ago.... fine. Under the basic ruleset, and would have to be a picture that has never been submitted to DP. To make it even more restricting you could add you could only submit pictures that have never been shown on the web before. Although, that I guess would be more of an honor thing, so I don't know if that could work.

Bleh, this has probably been suggested before. And its late so wild ideas are racing around in my brain.

Actually, I like it. I think it's similar to another idea I like:

Enter a past challenge.

Find a shot taken before this challenge opened for submission and enter it in any past challenge other than a free study. Title the shot with the challenge name.

This is a little fuzzy for me, but I think I like the idea as I always seem to have a decent shot for any one of the challenges going in my personal archives.

Like this for Backsides.....which I entered in Burst of Color and got spanked.

hmmm, I would say that it would still have to be a digital picture. Just with no time constraits.

I'd suggest adding a special rule that the shot MUST be taken before the challenge is announced. The idea to me is to give one of your also-rans another chance, as opposed to going out and shooting.

You could even put it in the details: Give your camera a day off and dig through your archives.
