I'm a student at AIP, as some of you may know, and I'm looking for some places to shoot sports in Pittsburgh. I called the Pro Club soccer team and I plan on calling Point Park, U. of Pitt, Duquesne, and CMU but I'm not sure what they will say. They may already have someone shooting their games or they may not let me in for free-considering I'm a poor art student. I need to shoot sports for my final project for a photo class. Any help would be appreciated. Thanks!

My sister-in-law goes to AIP and she is taking candid photos for the Steelers. You might check to see if any positions are still open.

Whatever arena the penguins play in. Get a super ultra fast big zoom lens and get a shot of sidney crosby flying through the air deking with the puck balanced on his head or something.

Don't know about within Pittsburgh, but grab a friend with a car and make a trip out to Latrobe to get shots of the Steelers training camp.

Rodneyg: The Steelers internship is for 5th quarter students only. I'm in my first quarter. Plus I work at Heinz Field already so that wouldn't work. But thanks, I appreciate it, unfortunately I can't do it until next summer.

Stiger: Actually, I got field passes for training camp next week so I'll have some from there but I need to shoot between 3-5 rolls and come up with 10 of the best images for my final project. Plus, I'm not sure if I want them all to be of training camp, but we'll see. Thanks!

Anyone else have any other ideas that don't involve spending thousands on a lens and a ticket! :) (thanks Altropos)

Midget football is gearing up near me - no admission, you can get close. Fall soccer starts soon - I know some officials in that, they know the where and when - again, it's free and you get get close.

Colleges, at least the football programs, are like the Pros - very limited access. I tried once when I was on a trip to State College - they money they were spending was unreal - 3 (three!) large man lifts/crane things over the field running cameras from all of them, and it was the just a practice. I didn't want to take pics, just show my son the players on the field - probably 2nd or third week of august - the fence was all covered, so we went over and peeked between the gate and gate post - a guy came over and chased us.

Basketball doesn't start till mid october and baseball is over. Soccer is probably your best bet, college if you can find it or HS.

Hey, thanks guys I really appreciate the help. So what are some good high schools/colleges in/around pittsburgh to go shooting at for soccer? Maybe some schools that have nice fields, etc that would help make the backgrounds much cleaner, etc.

I still have to call the pro club team and see what they think. It's worth a shot. And I know HS football can't be too far off as well.

Any and all help is very much appreciated! Thanks again!

What high schools inside/right outside of pittsburgh have "photo friendly" fields-for any sport?
