This explanation is very interesting, take a look at the video he posted too. This is something I didn't know.

Theoretically, yes but some can be harder to do than others depending on how they are constructed. Some (especially cheaper models) may have the IR blocking filter fused or glued onto the CCD making its removal difficult without damaging the sensor. There are places online where you can purchase a filter to block the visible spectrum to replace the IR filter with, but you will have to cut them yourself and need to be careful of scratches and dust. Apparently the focal plane could be slightly different too- not as much of an issue on P&S cameras but if you did a DSLR it could be.

I bought a Fuji F31fd and sent it in to //www.maxmax.com to have it converted into infrared only. Another good site for conversions (and great information) is //www.lifepixel.com . They both list what cameras they will convert and how much it will cost. I have been experimenting a bit with it.
