I recently purchased a new Canon 85 1.8 USM

When I take a shot the lens stays stopped down to the aperture that the picture was taken at. It takes the shot, but I get an "Err" on the LCD of the 5D. This is the only lens that is affected.

For some reason the aperture baldes to not return to the full open position.

Anyone seen this?

Have you tried the 85 on a different camera?

No, I only have 1 camera. But I have 4 other lenses and they all work fine.

If you bought the lens new and it's under warranty, send it back to Canon.

Interesting development. I have heard of manual lenses which are prone to that - particularly the Nikor 55mm micro. Squirt some wd40 down the lens barrel...... no probably not a good idea. Something is sticky in there. Sending it in or make an exchange is about the only alternative you have.

I don't have a 5D to test with, but I have never heard of anybody having problems with this lens. Sounds like a problem with that specific lens.

I have the 5d and the 85mm, never had a problem with it, it's a great combo for me. I would take it back and show them the error, if that option is available.
