I just bought a Sony DSC-F717 and was wondering how to take a picture at night of a high building that has some great lights here in columbus, I have no lens filters(yet) but I think that with this camera I`m able to take pictures like that( //www.dpchallenge.com/image.php?IMAGE_ID=49772 )
I`m mean, actually what are the settings that I have to setup my camera... well, thx in advanced and sorry to be so NewBe :D |

Turn the camera dial,(on top near the shutter) to "SCN". Press menu and then go to the moon or landscape or whatever your shooting. |

you can always put it in M mode for manul and set the apeture to F5 to f8 and set the shutter to between 1 sec to 5 or 10 seconds....

Put it on manual, set your aperture at 5 or higher like jab said and look in your CCD, there's a place where you have a meter that would probably read something like
-2EV. Try to get a shutter speed long enough to have a reading like 0EV a that place. For myself i like to shoot my nightshot at 1EV. Oh and i almost forgot.... Use a tripod!!!!!

Nice, I'm feeling like home here, a lot of help :D
Well, I'm in US right now but I'm from Brazil so, the only tripod that I can buy is the Sony Portable Tripod, is that fine for the DSC-F717?!

yes that will work, but you will need a good surface to set it on, like a brick wall o the roof of a car so you are not laying on the ground
