TCGuru and Lesganious seem to make sense.

They want the photog upside down and not the subject. Otherwise the challenge would be flooded with upside down subjects, so the extra rule would make some sense.

But could we not have had some official clarification by now ?

upside right - a sweeping blow to the right side of the head. this is most often seen in boxing matches, or bar fights. although it rarely can be witnessed in a cat fight. ;}

This gives me a headache.

upside right sounds like if a person is standing normally, then their head should point towards the right side of the photo.

However, it just means that the subject should be in it's normal possition. The camera should be upside down, and nothing else should. The resulting photo will end with the subject looking upside down.

Which would look exactly like a photo shot normally then rotated 180 deg.

That's how I understand it.

This was the first thought that went through my mind when I read the challenge title

my understanding is that if you rotated that shot 180 then it would fit the bill.

You know the SC is just sitting back and getting a laugh at our expense. That's enough allready! Clarify this thing.

I think this is wrong, the subject should be the right way up when the photo is taken not after, maybe :)

Right, it should be like Shadowi6 said. Rotate it 180 and then it fits the challenge.

This upside down right side up thing is making me nuts. I believe the correct terminology is right side up meaning not upside down.

Take a photograph from the vantage point of being upside down. Flip the camera or the subject?

Any ideas on this?

Read the thread below you - it seems most don't know what it is and are choosing to avoid the challenge. As with any challenge, interpret it as best you can and shoot it.

I think we need to take a picture of something that is placed or normally seen upside down.. The picture must simply show the object the right way up.. Anyone confirm this.. I feel so accomplished figuring it out..

I'm not so sure. I can see an equal argument for this or the opposite - you subject should NOT be in an unnatural position (upside down), just the camera angle is 180 degrees off.

I very much agree that we need SC (or someone) to clarify this.

See? This is how I see it. Otherwise just say take a picture from the vantage point of being upside down. I really think the subject should be taken upside down -- but the subject should end up looking the right way.

But because of all the confusion, I think I may sit out this week too. Because I thought the last toy challenge was ummmmm. .pretty boring.

I have just read through this entire thread and I am still as totally confused as I was when I first read the challenge! I have no idea what should be upside down, upside right or updown left. John suggested taking a shot of two people, one pointing to the top and one pointing to the bottom, and say choose your subject. Seems the best bet!

I have been on a break from shooting for months but really fancied beginning again - don't think I'll bother!

Shot some images on Wednesday and my wife and daughter looked at the thumbnails and the first thing they said was "I want to see the upside down one". I was wondering if that shot might qualify for the challenge. I think it is worth submitting and letting the voters decide. I guess I'm in.

Tim

PS: Should be worth a top 100 at the very least, as I don't think there will be 100 entries.

Edit: I spell like an engineer (I'll should make that my signature)

I've entered a shot in the upside down challenge knowing that it might get nailed. I'm as much confused as anyone here. I'm hoping the voters are kind this week considering the confusion and give us the benefit of the doubt and the freedom to interpret. :-)
