Did you notice there are no submissions for expert editing in the free study now? |

The earlier submission was a user who was having trouble submitting his entry, didn't realize he missed, and submitted to August.
We got a ticket from the user inquiring why his update button wasn't showing up and realized the problem at that point.

this is exactly what i was also thinking. |
Add another big YUCK from me too! Free Studies under Expert Editing are total BS. I may just sit this one out and vote my displeasure on anything that doesn't look like a photo.
What a shame to ruin such a fine monthly 'Best Of' type challenge. |

To each his own. To me it's great and should be used on all Free Studies. |

Have a blast and good luck. Let the splintering begin once again...
Did I mention I think this is total BS? |

So you don't like the rules, and will vote down those who use them? Why not just sit it out and not vote? |

Well, I probably will not bother voting (or entering).

All free study's should be expert editing in my opinion. Keep in mind what it is...a free study. A chance for you to go out and just explore what you can do with your photography and your editing. once you put limitis on it, then it no longer is a free study.
(This surprisingly from a guy who just learned how to use the curves layer in photoshop a couple of weeks ago). |

that is BS. There have already been several examples of shots that were voted down in expert editing challenges because people thought they used expert rules but in reality they didn't.
this totally doesn't look like a photo to me. It looks lie a composite and if I were voting down shots that didn't look like a photo this would be near the top of my list and I would be wrong. |

Actually, let the same discusion, argument begin once again as this has been discussed ad nauseum.
There is nothing wrong with Expert Editing. Get used to it! |

That is quite true and to my point. Expert Editing is a polarizing (hence the splintering of unity) ruleset for many here at DPC and to use it for a Free Study doesn't make sense IMO.

Well, since the "vocal" minority doesn't like the Expert Rules in the open challenge, perhaps we'll only have 630 entries next month... ;-) |

Nah, a lot of people enter using one of the other rule sets instead. Just because it's allowed, doesn't mean you have to use it. |

And as i said in the second post of thsi thread. Look at the couple other ones we have done. There are images that were barley more then advanced, i think the worst part was he removed an entire yacht but the picture could have been done in advanced and still won (plus the yacht).
A good shot from a talented photographer edited under basic and submitted to an expert challenge can win its not impossible.

Absolutely. I'm not disagreeing with that one bit. I may or may not enter something that takes advantage of the Expert rules, but it sure is nice to have the flexibility to use HDR or use multiple images for a pano if I wish. |

Question...I got a comment on my photo that someone had seen it before or something similar. Does an image have to be new and unique here? I guessing my score will be in the tank on this challenge :(

There's a few voters like that. Just ignore it. |

Understand..and thank you. Hard to ignore such a low score so far though. I didn't think it would get anywhere near top marks but didn't think it would get such low marks either. *sigh |
