So I finally saved up enough to buy my external flash. I got it today (YIPEE!) But from what I've heard, the manual is relatively worthless in it's explanation of how to use this excellent piece of equipment.
What are some of the best resources you've found regarding this flash? I thought some of you might have been through the learning curve before and that I could benefit from your experience.
I can't wait to try it out! I've been at work all day and haven't had a chance to give it a proper review.
Thanks in advance for your help! |

Here are a few to get you started. You're going to love having an Sb-800. I recommend getting a couple of SB-600's to go with it when you get a chance.
Cheers,

It's a great piece of equipment for shure. I like it so much that I've got 2 of them.
Best features:
- 90% of the times I use it TTL BL, with pattern metering (to meter the light). This way it will meter everything and fill in your subject so it will be a good exposure of it. even in backlight situations. I do a lot ok photos for a magazine about the night life here, and I always use the ttl bl with manual exposure and slow sinc (back curtain). This wau I can use my 30mmf1.4 at 1.4 and 1/10sec of exposure in very low light and have good sharpness of the subjects because the flash will freeze it.
- Another good feature is to be able to put a flash in master mode and another as a slave and shoot as two flashes sincronized.
What I cant firue out correctly is the repeat mode of the flash. |

I haven't messed with that function a whole lot. It does work as I have tried it once or twice, but I haven't spend much time taking photos in that mode. One setting is the rate at which the flash will fire and the other is the number of flashes. I think it is flashes per second, so a 5 x 10 would be five flashes per second for a total of 10 flashes (two seconds). I could see this being cool if you wanted to photograph a bouncing ball or a runner sprinting by or something like that. |

This may basically just be the manual, but I keep it bookmarked:
