I've been wondering, as I have been enjoying myself at DPC, what's the story behind why & how this site was created. I personally would love to hear from the founders/creators about the intial idea for this site & how it has evolved since then. Would also love to see a feature that let's folks read about it & appreciate all the changes that has led up to the current version on DPC.

I mean, for the most part (99.999...%, had some ugly forum experiences) I have had such a blast here at DPC & have thoroughly become addicted to not only this site, but photography in general, that I would love to know the history/story of the site that has inspired me & countless others.

Anyone got the scoop?

From about page:
"DPChallenge was created in January 2002 by two friends, Drew Ungvarsky (drewmedia) and Langdon Oliver (langdon). The original idea behind the site was for it to be a place where the two of us and a couple of our friends could teach ourselves to be better photographers by giving each other a 'challenge' for the week. The idea quickly took off and became much more in the months that followed.

In December 2002, we released the 2nd version of our site with a number of new features, including concurrent challenges. We also added site membership as a way to support our ever-growing physical and time demands.

To date, 15,959 users have submitted 25,321 photographs to 177 challenges. 12783 photographs have been submitted to 418 portfolios. "

Mavrik, did you get that from a profile or is it written somewhere on the site making my suggestion moot?

Interesting stuff... would like to know more.

Go to the help menu at the far right, in the drop down menu select 'About' and that's where you'll see it.

Arnit and Alecia from the third challenge. And don't forget Langdon was in all the first 3. Leshii is still around sometimes but not entering much.

Out of 174 challenges, there have been 1294 DQ requests (and that includes the one that JUST came in). Out of those 1294, 486 have been disqualified. I had to physically count those, so I could be off by a couple, but for the most part, there's the numbers. That means about 38% of the requests we get actually get DQed. But keep in mind we get some REALLY crazy requests like "please DQ this shot cause it's out of focus" or "this shot is horrible". We ignore those requests. lol
I don't have a count on how many total entries there have been, so can't give you a % of entries to DQs. I'm just too tired to do that math. LOL

24782... pasted the challenge history table into excel and summed.

Edit:

Oh, that means 5.22% DQ requested, 1.96% DQ'd

So that's less than 2% that get DQed. I bet more deserve it.

Some more stats for the curious...
Highest number of DQ's in a single challenge is 13 from the "All Alone" challenge.
36 challenges had no DQs
Most requests in a single challenge was 28 for the "Future" challenge.
