from CA to SC, it's now a nationwide fad. if you are not offering this service to your wedding clients, you're missing out on serious money...trash the dress. (be aware, there's a little bit of leg in the video)

That's actually kind of cool. |

It's cool, but IMO only the very adventurous (wild and crazy!) girls are going to go for it. Could make for some seriously awesome shots though! |

Just get a $150 dress at the Goodwill store and it wouldn't seem so bad to mess it up.

I've never understood the concept of keeping wedding dresses, anyway. My wife's has been sitting in a closet at her parents' house for 14 years.

I shot what I call "industrial bridals" for a client a few weeks ago...
industrial bridals
She's a different kind of girl, so we shot different kinds of bridals. I don't ever want to do foofy-bride-in-the-park bridals again! (actually never did - but sometimes it's worth the new lens to do it y'know?
The dress was rented - part of the rental fee included an evening for the bridal shots. They were not happy when we took it back "trashed". Extra $35 cleaning bill - so worth it!

My wife still has her's. I just hope and pray that at least one of our daughters decides to wear mom's dress for their wedding. Do you know what those things cost? (other than $150 at the Goodwill)

I've seen lots of postings on craigslist (LA) to trash dresses for a photo shoot.
I'm a girl, and I'm sentimental... I couldn't imagine trashing my own dress. Nope! Esp with what they cost!
Why keep it? I dunno... to twirl around in it whe you aren't home. :)

Same here but I only have boys, so short of a surprise in my future, chances are it's not going to see the light of day again. Not that I would suggest getting rid of it either - I have "lurned" too much for that by now :) Around the $250 mark would be slightly less then we paid for it (and yes it was us) :-o/.

I did a trash the dress session for a girl who had a Vegas wedding. The dress was simple and the water was cold (she didn't go all the way in) so the images are not as impressive as the ones in the video. It was fun though and I'd love to do a full blown one!

Wow, I saw the links over in this other thread (now locked). Amazing stuff. And I thought my wedding back on 7/7/07 was unique when the bride got thrown into the swimming pool!!!

Well, I had to try it so I found myself a willing victim and spent the day yesterday shooting one....
I had a blast, my "bride" and her "flower girl" had a blast and we walked away with some awesome photos.
Heres a few, theres more in my portfolio if anyones curious...
Edit to add: Yes, that was her actual wedding dress we trashed - however it was a few years further down the road than your average bride. The funniest thing is that we stuffed her into my jeep and everywhere we went (this being Massachusetts and all) people kept thinking WE had just gotten married. We gave up explaining after the fifth or sixth time. Everywhere people were honking (her veil was blowing in the breeze with the top off) and waving and cracking up. A family from Norway on holiday came over and videotaped us! LOL
