I finally went and bought the D40 today. All I can say is, what a revelation! - Now I wish I'd gone dSLR years ago.

Although the 18-55 kit lens is pretty good, I've been experimenting for the last 6 hours with my AI-S lenses and speedlight. Wow... Incredible. The f/1.8 50mm on there with a bounced flash, I just couldn't get enough of. And when I put on the f/2.8 90mm macro, it was just amazing. In fact, it felt like a different camera when I put these AI lenses on. If anyone is shooting with just the kit lens, I'd seriously recommend getting a cheap AI 50mm on eBay... you'll be amazed (okay, it's a bit more work shooting manual mode. But the results are so beautiful)

I had been worried about not having metering, but I've found that I get the exposure right 90% of the time in Manual mode just by going with best guess.

Can you tell I'm pleased with it?
