Was curious if anyone has been following or heard of this case.
//www.cnn.com/2007/US/law/07/20/teen.sex.ap/index.html?iref=topnews
Thats just the new developments from today, but its a place to look for more details.
Anyway, this kid who was a student athlete, 17 at the time was caught on video at a new years eve party having consentual oral sex w/ a 15yr old girl. Under that state's law, he received a mandatory 10 year prison sentence and is considered a child molester for the rest of his life. He will have to register as a convicted sex offender.
Anyone completely agree he deserves this or do most think it is extreme or completely bogus all toghether?
Ive been following it for a short while, I find the arguments interesting on both sides and was just looking for what others thought.

I am no expert on your state laws, but they seem pretty clear to me. At 17, he is aware of the consequences of his actions. So, there is no excuse.
However, having been 17, a long time ago, I can just about recall how the hormones kick in when confronted with a situation like the one stated. I was going to say the heart rules the head, but I guess it is a lot lower than that!
So, should he be punished as the law states? The judgement of Solomon would have let him off the crime, but had him castrated. I think he should have been cautioned and put on the register with the condition that if he does not repeat offend within a specified period..1 year?..he would be removed and have a clean record.
But this is just the way I view live. |

I think it completely bogus... At 17 & 15 the law is lower on the list of thinks to think about in that scenario :-o).... Seems the crime was the video tape :-/
To pretend this is not happening in numerous other places at younger ages is just digging sand around your head but it is a popular condition on this topic (particularly in the US). Making a life-long criminal for what is a minor deal in the scheme of things make no sense at all.
The laws have to have some gray to allow judges some latitude in case like this - I would hope most people think this scenario is different from a 40yr old doing something to a 5yr old and to be honest are scared of the people that don't see the difference.
