ive been going to the beach latly and snapping some shots with my 70-200 and in most of the pictures, the backround comes out clearer than the surfer/bodyboarder. i really dont understand. what should the evaluation meetering be? weighted? need some help.

I had similar issues with mine and the only way around for me is to use a single focus point rather than all of them and its usually not to bad that way.

Doesn't sound like your metering is the issue. Your focus point and focus mode should be of more concern.
For sport type shots AI servo will probably serve you best, but you need to keep an eye on which focus point you are using.
