I have a 12 year old truck. When I purchased it I took out a 2 year loan. That was paid off in 97. At that time I remember the box for lienholder on my registration being blank. The other day I was filling out some paperwork for a parking permit and noticed that my old credit union was back on my registration. I don't normally look at the registration. I just take the stickers off and throw it in the glove box. Since I don't clean out my glove box I looked through the old registrations and noticed it reappeared three years ago. What's the deal with that? Anyone else seen this sort of glitch with the CA DMV? |

Do you have the title to the vehicle? Is the CU on it? If not, go to the DMV and show them the title. If they are, you need to clear it up with the CU. |

You didn't happen to take out another loan with the CU about 3 years ago??????

If you never walked the title into the motor vehicle department for a clean title after the lien was paid off, then DVM was never notified that the lien was released.

Yep, have the title and the letter they sent me back in 97. The only thing I can think of is I changed the address of my registration around 2003. I don't remember if I did it in person or not but if I handed them an old registration that showed a lienholder would they have put it back on? That's the only possible thing I can think of that changed.

Nope. Haven't had a loan for anything since 97.

I was quite happy when I paid off the vehicle and went into the DMV right away. |

Well, my experience with the California DMV has been that they are far from error free. I would expect that they can clear it up. |
