For those who have had proof requested of them but do not remember receiving an email you might want to check your spam settings. I just noticed that while other email from dpchallenge (responses to critiques and the like) went to my regular inbox the email with the request for proof went into my bulk (spam) email box. The same thing appears to have happened before when I requested a password to be sent to me. |

What kind of e-mail are you using Techno and Harz, is it a program such as Outlook Express or Eudora, or rather a web based system like hotmail or yahoo? Are the spam settings which caused the request for proof e-mail to be diverted something you have control over? |

A request for proof will also come up on the home page under the photo status as well. So you need not even recieve the email to know that we need proof on the image. We realized the SPAM box problem and implimented this to solve the problem. |

I have dedicated a folder for DPChallenge in my Yahoo! account and created a filter to send all e-mails with "DPChallenge" in the "From" field to that folder. It works nicely with the regular e-mails. Hopefully it will forestall any problems with proof requests getting deleted with the bulk. If I ever get one. ^_^

Could you elaborate on what you mean by "the spam box problem" please. |

When you use a web-based service like Yahoo or Hotmail, or sometimes just according to your own web filters, it will sort messages that it thinks are junk and send them to a folder for Spam. Unfortunately, the filter is not always correct and it will send something you really want to the spam filter. This can happen with the dpc messages. That's what they mean with the spam box problem.

Some email providers offer a special box where email that the system thinks is "spam" or junk mail is sent directly, so that people don't have to even look at it. Suposed to cut down on the ammount of junk mail a person actually has to look through and delete. However, a lot of the time email that is not actually junk is sent to that box, and people don't recieve their mail, if they don't check the spam box often.
I know I have had important mails sent to the spam box, and lots of others have had this happen as well.
We don't know why, but some email providers are sending the DPC mails to the spam box. You can set it up NOT to do this. But to bypass the problem all together, if you get a DQ request and have to send in proof, we now put a message right on the front of your DPC home page to alert you that there is a request for proof.
In the past, we've had to DQ photos for not sending in proof when we requested it, and their excuse was that they didn't recieve any request for proof. Yeah, it happens sometimes, but not anymore. Now, if you sign on to DPC, and you've had a request for proof...You get it. Cause it's right there in front of you on the web site. |

That solves the problem as far as requests for proof are concerned, a good solution in my opinion. But how about a solution for the other mail we are supposed to get from dpchallenge.com? I'm thinking of PMs and the weekly newslwtter. Shouldn't we be able to receive them? Why are they considered spam? Is there other mail being sent out by dpchallenge.com that really is spam and should be filtered or blocked?

DPC doesn't send spam. It depends on each person's settings as to whether or not it gets marked as spam. Are you getting PMs? Are you getting the newsletter? If so, then there's no problem. If you aren't and you think you should be, then check out your settings. Check your junk mail folder if you have one or check your filter rules to see if they may be catching mail from dpc.

I think it's considered "spam" cause we send out a bulk email. (the weekly newsletter). All it takes is for that bulk email to go to your spam folder once, and then your email service recognizes it as "spam" from then on out. I caught mine in my spam box, checked "this is not spam" and haven't had a problem since. It just depends on your email setting. This is just my guess as to what happens. There could be another reason, or I could be completely off by miles, but it worked for me. |

This thread made me go and check my spam folder just out of curiosity and found my callwave bill. Nice place for it. huh? Sometimes I swear it's more of a pain in the butt than anything to have a "spam folder" |

mk & hbunch7187, I am not getting PMs nor newsletters. I have never marked a message as spam, I don't have a spam folder, and I haven't maked any settings for spam. I am using a web-based mail server that doesn't have those options; have been using it for over 3 yrs and mail from dpchallenge.com is the only thing I have ever had a problem with. I am very careful about letting my e-mail address be seen on the net and receive very little spam, but I would like to get PMs and newsletters. |

You may not have options, but some ISPs block all mail from certain domains, or perhaps from certain servers. It may recognize that this is a sent by an auto-mailer, whereas all your private correspondence comes from personal accounts.
Send a note to your ISP complaining that you are not getting your mail from certain legitimate mailers, and you want the problem corrected if they are doing the blocking; maybe they can do something. |

There are settings in your preferences that you need to turn on if you want the newsletter. About PM's, I don't get very many at all, and I'm a SC member. I just sent you a PM, so let me know if you're getting it. |

TYVM hbunch, I just looked at the My Preferences page. I have checked all the boxes in the E-Mail Preferences section except for Display E-Mail Address. It's been about 15 min and no PM from you has arrived at my Inbox. It's late here and I am going to turn in, but I'll post here tommorrow. Thanks again. |

I think the problem may be that that "request for proof" emails have:
Please do not reply to this message
(or something like that) in it. A lot of "spam detection" software works by checking for certain patterns in a message, and computing a score for the message as it is scanned. The above phrase is pretty "spam-like" and might be enough to "push it over the top" into the "this is spam" bin.
I'll bring this theory up with Langdon and Drew and see if they think it would be worthwhile to re-word or remove that line.

At least for my Spam-filter the reason for marking it as SPAM is:
X-HTMLModify: SPAM - only HTML, no text
So sending just normal text-mails instead of html-pages might solve the problem.
"Please do NOT reply to this email" is not the reason, because PM's have this sentence too and they are not marked as SPAM.

It's been over ten hours since hbunch attempted to send me a PM and it's not in my Inbox.
Harz- Do you think that unchecking the first box, HTML E-Mail, in the E-Mail Preferences section on the My Preferences page would help? Would the same messages be sent to me but in text only format instead of HTML? |

@coolhar: the HTML-email is unchecked in my preference and aas mentioned, PMs get through to me as pure text. But my recent request of proof was purely HTML.
However, I get all messages anyway. I use SpamPal and have a filter set in Eudora so all mail including the word SPAM (added to Spam-mail in the Header by Spampal) go into the trash.
However, if a Mail contains DPC or DPChallenge, it's filtered into my DPC-folder.
Works well for me. |

Coolhar,
Are you sure your email address is listed properly in your settings? Is it possible you typed it in wrong there?

Thanks General, not received yet. I have reviewed this thread and saw your earlier post. I have e-mailed the postmaster at my e-mail server, and, before that, I had tried to resolve my problem by contacting our own administrators, more that once. Either they think it is a problem I should be able to resolve for myself, or are busy and just haven't gotten to it yet. I am looking at the situation again just to make sure there is nothing that I should be doing that I may have overlooked.
Trying to follow Harz's advice, but in slightly different terms, I have now set up a "rule" that directs messages from dpchallenge.com to be delivered to Inbox. Hopefully this will help. Gotta go for now but will check back later. Thanks. |

I still have received no PMs. I have checked on the My Preferences page, and on the box that shows up after you send a PM. In both of those places my e-mail address is correct. |
