I have a pentax k10d and I have noticed that things just stick more to this dslr than my previous digital camera and my film based slr. I can't remember having large pieces of debris sticking to my lens and showing. I also try to make sure that its clean before I shoot, but after as being at the beach on a windy day and your just shooting stuff flies on to the lens when your not thinking about it. I was wondering if anyone knows of a good program that doesn't remove detail with the dirt. I was using Photo shop CS2 dust and scratches option but that just made a bloody mess of the image. I then quit that idea and reformulated the plan and cloned it out since it was just in the sky. I was wondering about the Canon 400D software I read before that the software was supposed to remove the dust. Does it work and or if it work does it only work with a canon camera?
Sorry for so many questions I hope someone can help! |

Its not the dust on the lens thats showing its the dust on the sensor. I don't even know why you bring up film slr. There is no comparison. If dust gets stuck to a piece of film when the film advances the next frame doesn't have the same piece of dust.
The 400D's software you shoot a white piece of paper or something and then it removes it from the images based on that.
Its a temporary solution but the real solution is sensor cleaning. Its not the lens, its not the mirror. Anything electronic can attract dust statically creating even more of a problem. If your previous digital wasn't a dSLR then thats also another useless comparison to be honest.
good luck.
ETA: Dirt at the beach hand blower and lens pen but thats not the real problem to everything else.

But when you go to make prints there is still dust on the film that needs to be cleaned off.

the best way I've found is by hand - but I haven't tried the canon software - the photoshop solution is too heavy handed for my taste too. |
