Hi all, I'm back...stop that boo'ing.

The storm was pretty bad but not the worst. The buildings here on Okinawa are built to withstand much stronger winds but at times I had my doubts about the windows lol.

We were sent home early on Thursday the 12th to get ready for the lock down. I made sure all my rechargable things were plugged in and charging. The storm started showing it's face late that evening but nothing too bad. Friday came and all heck broke loose. I had a very limited range of view from my 3rd floor window plus opening it was sure to soak the room. I did however get some shots off at various times...I just tried to upload about 4 megs of pics and it is having terrible issues, even tried in two separate zip files and a single image, nothing working. I will try later to get them uploaded to share.

I also made some video using my webcam but I selected the wrong video codec and so now nothing on my computer will play it. I have to get on the internet to see if I can get the right program to either convert it or play it. I'll try and get it uploaded when possible and let everyone know.

I'm not sure of the total amount of damage around the island but I did see a picture of a road partially collapsed and heard it hit mainland Japan much worse.

Anyway, thanks for all the well wishes, I'm back ok and waiting for the next one, (as long as it doesn't come around September 8th...my fly home day).

We now return you to your regularly scheduled update button addiction. ;)

Your ROOM??! Look Scott, you'll never win that Pulitzer unless you venture out into the jaws of death! Now grab your camera and your slickers and hit the ravaged streets of Okinawa! ;p

lol you have a very good and valid point but I had to promise the wife I would not go out or even extend out my window very far...geez you climb to the roof of one building to take lightning pictures and you never live it down. lol

Noisemaker, it is an avi but I the program allowed you to use different codec (is that the right word?) and since I didn't have a clue I left it on default...guess that was wrong. When they open in quicktime and real player the correct length of time shows up but the image is black and when you hit play it just jumps to the end, no image what so ever. If I can't figure it out I'll upload it to my website and see if you can get it from there. I'll let you all know more when I get home and can look at...rumor is the internet is back up and running there.

ok images finally loaded...typhoon portfolio

The images of the guys playing and swimming in the parking lot was actually taken on saturday when we were supposed to be all clear. It was crazy wet but that didn't stop them from having fun.

I survived it too, but it wasn't so bad here, just a lot of rain Saturday and Sunday morning (I was surprised it stopped raining in the afternoon). It was the strongest July typhoon to hit Japan since 1951 (I think about four people died due to it).

Then there was a big earthquake this morning that has caused a lot of damage - don't know what casualties are. It was quite long, and surprising that we felt it here because it was on the other side of the country.

We fared pretty well down here on Kinser. Lots of High winds and lots of rain of course. But we never lost power or cable tv which made the 17 1/2 hours of lockdown bearable.

Well I finally got internet back in my room so I got a video from the images I took uploaded. Nothing real special if you've already seen the images in the portfolio. Typhoon Video

The music could have been a little louder but it's not important anyway.

(Noisemaker, I'm gonna have to take you up on the offer of taking a look at the video I shot with my webcam, I can't get anything to play or convert it...pm on its way.)
