ok, so with the doors opening on august 1st we are trying to put together a senior ambasdor program, but don't know all that we need. do we use contracts or what. if anyone out there could give us some info on how they do it, or if they child was an ambasdor how was it done?

can you give more info on the program?

I, for one, am lost on the original post.

sorry about that, the early post was right after I woke up...

a senior ambassador program is pretty easy, we have seniors come in and we give them a free set of wallets with our logo on them. They then go and give it to the other kids at school, and if a senior gets their pictures done and gives us that wallet then we give our ambasdor 20 bucks. it's a deal all around, we make a ton more then 20 bucks on a senior session, and it motivates kids in the local school to work hard to get sittings through our doors.

my questions are also pretty simple. I don't know if we should use a contract. I don't really think we should myslef. I also am wondering on numbers, we are just starting so I don't know what is the best number of ambassadors to have

I was hoping that someone out there had a child who was an ambassador or there was someone who owns a studio and felt like sharing their take on the whole thing.

Joe - the way I've seen the ambassador program work best is something like this:

You shoot 5-10 seniors for free and give them flyers with their shots, name and your studio name & contact info to give to their friends. The friends bring the flyer to you when they schedule their sittings. For every flyer that comes back to you, that senior gets credits toward prints. With enough seniors passing out flyers, you'll have canvased the entire senior (or Junior) class in no time - with minimal effort. :)

And yes, standard contract with model release.

Also - do some reading at OurPPA.com.... TONS of good info there.

thanks guys, here is what I came up with. this is just a letter to send out, or may take an add out in the paper.

Luman Imagery is looking for Ambassadors for the 2007/2008 school year. Ambassadors enjoy a 10% discount on their print order and are given a set of free flyers with their pictures on them to pass out to their friends. When someone brings one of their flyers to their senior session, the ambassador is given 20 dollars! It is all about getting you and your friends the best possible professional photography for their senior portraits, while making a little money on the side.

What you're describing is a simple referral program. No contracts needed.

An ambassador program is more formal - you shoot 2 to 4 kids per school for free - you choose the clothes, shots, etc, this is in (here anyway) done in February. You then do up a 'brag book' - i've seen wallet to 8x10 albums done, 2 per kid - one for them and one for mom. Mom is as if not more important than the kid in getting folks in. Yes, the kids must think you're cool but mom pays the bills and except for wallets, mom decides what gets bought.

You then have these kids get the names and addresses of EVERY kid in their class (for mailing purposes of course). They also have flyers or coupon or wallets or whatever to hand out, and their brag book to show as well.

You generally have a requirement for them to send X number of kids to you - cash for them and credits for mom. Then in July or August you shoot their regular senior session - they choose the clothes, etc. They can pick from any of the shots from either session. They have credits to spend, perhaps discounts too. If they send you 10 kids (pick a number) then they can keep their brag book, otherwise they return it. Lose it or damage it and they have to pay you $400 (pick a number). Makes them keep it nice. You get one back to show other kids in the future.

They must also replace themselves with another ambassador.

And yes, for all this you need a contract - with them and mom as they are usually minors, and a model release as well. you use their model session shots for your marketing , mailing, ads, etc.

Getting the first few kids is the hard part - after that they replace themselves!

Wow... so this thread is almost a year old.
But as an update:
the problem has been long solved. the studio is up and going, and (business wise) all is well.
