I'm relatively new to the world of DSLR's, only having my D80 - my first DSLR - for a couple months, and after downloading my last batch of shots, I noticed something popping up in exactly the same spot in each of the shots. Can anyone identify this? I've heard about sensor dust and hot pixels, but I'm not exactly sure what to do about them. Depending on the problem, I'd rather not lose my camera for several weeks, if it's something I could get fixed cheaply in a local shop, or even do myself.

Here's the culprit:

Thanks in advance for any help on this matter.

Hot pixels are usually red.

It actually seems to change colour depending on the colour it's sitting on - in several shots it was just white.

Hot pixels can be red, green, blue or white. If it is always in the same spot in every image it is most likely a HP.

My hot pixel's look exactly like that when I do get them.

If you don't want to clean your sensor all the time try this free plugin.

Its worth a shot to fix it that way or cloning it out each and every time.
