and wondered if anyone on here could suggest some worthwhile places to go take some pictures :-)

I will not have too much spare time as I am at attending and talking at a conference but I do have a whole Sunday to myself and maybe a whole Thursday morning, too, plus evenings and early mornings.

Any suggestions, ideas or thoughts very welcome as the last time I was in Austin was about 15 years ago and ended up very drunk on 6th Street, playing bass with a very good blues band and singing strange lyrics to a blues standard. Suffice it to say I cannot sing and, at that time, had not played bass live for about 20 years...

Hence my request for help...

What is your interest? A good place for shooting people would be the said street, people walking/running around town lake, bars etc.

Objects of interest may be the Congress (some nice architecture-type photos), downtown from the south shore, Pennybacker bridge, views from Mount Bonnel... Look at Yanko's photos (architecture section) to get some idea...

The lakes are overfilled and the river color is ugly brown, so any river shots may need some 'color adjustment' to make them pretty.

If you plan on visiting 6th street in the same style as 15 yrs ago, let us know and we'll take some pictures of you:-)

Well, I was thinking architecture and people but after seeing Yanko's portfolio... wowzers!

In truth, architecture is good as are people so many thanks for the tips. I will have a car so I can get further afield but it strikes me that there may be a lot to see and do in Austin itself.

This could be a lot of fun, although if I do go to 6th Street I will not be demonstrating my lack of prowess with the bass guitar and vocals again - ever! :-(

Appreciate the feedback

It would be very much worth your while to try to hook up with Jutilda if she has time. And maybe get SandyP to drive up if she can. You'd definitely have a great time!

Thanks, Deb. This is my "reward" for missing Munster - a business trip to Austin - lol

But I will enjoy it while I can - and probably get a lens or two while I am there :-)

Congress Avenue Bridge. The world's largest urban bat population. Watch them come out at sunset and get some KILLER photos that will really be different :)

Well, I am now in Austin and about to leave tomorrow (Thursday). Aside from a hectic conference I did spend Sunday shooting around Austin and the Capitol Building but not much else. HOwever, as I am staying at the Four Seasons right near to Congress Bridge I did intend to go down there and watch the bats - but it looks very wet outside. Sigh

Anyhow, a good trip and I will be posting some of the shots in the next 24 hours as there is some truly fascinating sights around here. I am hoping to get a shot of the Austin City Power Plant before I go because the logo is so 30's and Art Deco that it is a work of art in itself.

Thanks for all of the advice and help, guys!

Aw shucks! Leaving so soon?

If it wasn't pouring right now, I would have been willing to get downtown and perhaps meet with you (and shoot some street photography while down there)...

but this definitively does not look good :-(
