I've been searching Ebay [the canadian site] and can't seem to find many private sales on used cameras and equipment, basically all I'm getting are stores selling off stock at no real discount. Anyone have better luck than I am having?

I know the feeling as I've been shopping for cameras on the US site. There are more individuals selling if you are looking for older models, and a few in the newer ones, but on the whole it is dominated by dealers with numerous repetitive listings of bundles that are not really great buys.

I got my coolpix 995 off ebay over the summer for $300 if I remember correctly. It came with a leather camera case as well. Although that was the american site.

I should also note that I think I browsed the posting for about a month to get that deal.. and obviously a discontinued model like the 995 is going to go for a lower price than a more recent model would.

My experience is that the camera "stores" on ebay really give you no better deals than the real stores elsewhere on the internet (and sometimes worse deals). I have been most satisfied buying other stuff (spotting scope, image bank, musical instruments) from sellers who owned it for 6 mos or a year, didn't use it, and will sell for less. Fewer bidders are willing to gamble on 2nd-hand merchandise. Gotta be cautious, though. I have been, and I've been lucky. The only time I felt taken advantage of was by a "store", and that in a minor way.

You're actually better off to use the US site anyway. with the US dollar plummeting the way it has, most canadian retailers haven't adjusted their price. I got my 300D for about $300cdn less in the US than i would have here.

Interestingly i compared prices at Futureshop here and Bestbuy there and found the same thing. this is interesting because they're the same company :)

if it was a Rebel I'd buy it :-)

I bought all my lenses for the 10D on e-bay: Canon 28-135mm IS, 75-300mm IS, Sigma Macro 105mm EX. I paid a little less than full retail price at B&H. You can't expect to pay a lot less on items that are in high demand.

I'm currently waiting for a Sigma 15-30mm that I won. I paid $455 --retail $580 at B&H Photo, but you can buy them new on E-Bay for $465-$470.

No problems with e-bay so far.

I don't think you're going to find many USED Rebels on Ebay.

I have a Fujifilm S602Z up for grabs. PM me if you're interrested.

Yeah I know....its definetly not a Rebel, but it did its job for me in my younger years. I used it to take newborn baby photos and post them on the hospital website for families all over to world to see....it was a great camera for those purposes. It was hard to take shots with the flash as every photo with flash was over exposed. I liked the feature of the Mavica FD-7 floppy drive, but that was in a day when floppys were worth it, now it just not practical.

I would be a great camera for fun photography or an aspiring young photographers.

I won an auction Saturday night for a Canon 70-200mm F4. Cost me $543US (retails for ($575 at BHPhoto) = $715 Canadian. No taxes, brokerage fees because the e-bayer was canadian. Compare that to $1200 taxes included at Henrys.com. The best bet it to buy gear from Canadian E-bayers in order to avoid taxes and brokerage fees from shipping companies.
