I think you should have your model smear lightning bugs on her teeth for a glowing smile.

Im sure this is addressed in the rules, but I might as well as it here anyway:
***NOOB ALERT***
My submission would have to have been taken on July 11th or later right? I couldnt use a shot I took over this prior weekend? |

It has to be a photo taken after the challenge was announced; from Jul. 11th 'till Jul. 17th (then the challenge starts with the voting process) |

Don't feel bad, I had the same thing happen. I took a bunch of pictures that are natural light that I'm very happy with, the customer said they're the best pictures anyone has EVER taken of her daughter, and I took them last week. She wants me to do some pictures of her younger daughter soon. I might ask her if I can do them this weekend, so I can use the kid as a model. |

I would delight in someone using fire or fireflies or phosphorescent algae as a natural light source. :)
As to timing, please please PLEASE go read the rules, slowly, in depth. They're very, very clear about when you can take pics for challenges. And they're good to know for a hundred other reasons, not the least of which is not getting your fantastic photo disqualified.
As for challenges coming up at unfortunate times, yep, it happens regularly. Taken 4 days before a perspective challenge:

I too lucked out on this, I have the model (my girlfriend) all weekend at the shore, so well see what happens. |

Ok,
so opinions everyone...what if it's a animal portrait, but it's a really good one...lighting pretty even, and it's no doubt natural lighting...
how do you think scoring will go for that :D
just curious /evil grin |

I personally am HIGHLY picky on animal portraits.
Go for it, respect your gut feeling.
Just do it.
Don't second guess.
Be a martyr.

Hey... if the sun, moon and fireflies were all created, then what does that leave for a natural light source?
(Me ducks and runs) ;-P |

ooh, bad Scalvert, bad Scalvert. Go to your room and stop stirring up trouble.
BTW all, I wasn't advocating DNMC for catchlights earlier in the thread. I was just betting on what the DNMC police were going to do.
I know a little about light. Not much, but a little. |

So, if I use a windows (tm) shaped paintbrush to create "natural" catchlights, would I get DQ'd? ;-)

I did one today but I'm afraid to enter. My scores have suffered so horribly lately, although I told myself I'd enter what I loved, and voters can go jump in the lake.
I do love natural light too. ;~D |

I could put black paper strips on the softbox that looked like window panes.
Don't have the 56" moon unit here yet, but they are making window masks for it. (Near bottom of page). It's supposed to be here "sometime within the next month". |

Uh, Jutilda, you're in danger of sounding like certain others people whining about his measly mid-6 scores. 5.8, 6.3, 5.8 in your last three entries is hardly suffering ... :P

FYI...
A catch light can easily be created with natural light using what us Hollywood types call....a mirror.
Hell, a catch light can be mad using aluminum foil, or even a white bounce board.
