Why didnt langdon just named the challenges as LANDSCAPE and SEASCAPE instead of Land (not sea) and Sea (not land)? aargh...

/slaps self with a sledge hammer for all the DNMC comments.

Because "landscape", by definition, includes seascapes, and historically the seascapes have a huge advantage in DPC, making the inlanders feel left out of landscape challenges. The idea here was to put the non-seascapes in a different category.

Plus he likes messing with our minds; it's good for us :-)

And anyway he doesn't name the challenges. It's the membership that makes suggestions and the challenges are chosen from the suggestion list.

All I know is that at least commenter has told me that because water isn't the main subject, it's DNMC. Never mind that it's a sky over water, and the water is about 1/3 of the frame.

I haven't DNMC'd anyone, but I did take into consideration the challenge description sentence "Open water should be the prominent feature in your image." and deducted 1 point if it blatantly wasn't the prominent feature. Many have boats as focal points but I did not comment or deduct for that.
