I just bought a Sigma 55-200mm f4-5.6 lens to go with my Canon EOS 400D. I just tried it for the first time today and after I put it on, it wouldn't take a picture. However when I partly placed it on the camera I was able to take a photo (not great focus).

I am really new to this so I was wondering if someone could tell me if I have been an idiot and done something wrong or if the lens might be faulty.

thanks in advance

Sounds like it`s an older lens that will need rechipping to work with digital cameras.
